Packaging for a Set of the Butterfly Cards

After making numerous cards with a butterfly theme, it became necessary to create packaging for a set of the butterfly cards.  The Acetate Card Boxes in the 2018-2019 Annual Catalog are perfect for packing the cards.  Instead of putting the cards in just a clear acetate box, decorate the box to add extra flair.  For consistency, I chose to use the butterfly theme for decorating the box.  It’s an easy project and now the cards are neatly packaged to present as a gift or to sell at a craft fair.  Best of all, the Butterfly Botanical Designer Series Paper and the Butterfly Elements are in the Sale-a-Bration brochure and each are FREE with qualifying purchases. Continue reading below for the steps to recreate this box to package your butterfly cards.

Acrylic Box embellished for Butterfly Cards

Decorating the Acetate Card Box

  1. Assemble the acetate card box.
  2. Use a 5-3/8″ x 5-5/8″ piece of Balmy Blue cardstock.  On the 5-3/8″ side, score at 1/2″ and 4-7/8″.  Add texture to the center area between the score lines using the Layering Leaves Dynamic Texture Embossing Folder.  Fold score lines and insert the cardstock into the box.
  3. Cut a 2″ x 5-3/4″ strip of Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper (DSP).   Attach to the center of the acetate box using Tear & Tape Adhesive.
  4. Stamp the “Just for You” sentiment from the Meant to Be Stamp set in Tuxedo Memento Black Ink onto a 3-1/2″ x 2-3/4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Cut using the large circle framelit dies from the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies.  Attach to the box using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  5. Embellish around the sentiment using the Butterfly Elements and adding a coordinating bow.

The Organdy Ribbon Combo Pack in the Sale-a-Bration brochure is currently sold out and will be available in early March while reorder supplies last.  The 1/8″ Grapefruit Grove Grain Ribbon is a good substitute to use for making a coordinating bow.

Now when you want to package a set of your card creations, you can easily decorate an acrylic box to coordinate with your cards.

Card Featuring the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper

A card featuring the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper was a design in the All About Butterflies class.  The paper is in the current Sale-A-Bration brochure and you can select it for FREE with a $50 purchase.  This is one of my favorite papers.  Best of all, several of the butterfly designs coordinate with the Butterfly Duet Punch, therefore, no fussy cutting.  Since the Designer Series Paper (DSP) is a double-sided design, options for color combinations is endless.

First, I want to share the inspiration card.  The 4″ x 4″ card was received from Patty Bennett.  The combination of papers adds to the beauty of the card.  You will notice that the only stamping is the sentiment.  Since the technique is primarily paper layering, it is a simple design.  Using her design layout, I made a standard 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ card to use for one of the class projects.

Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper

Now for the class card:

Card Featuring Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper

Notice how well the Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper coordinates with the black and white design on the Botanical Butterfly DSP.  As you compare the designs, note the slight variations such as the different ribbon and no embossing on the vellum.  However, the layout design is the same.  Details for creating the class card are below.

Card Directions:

Cut cardstock and paper as follows:

  • Thick Whisper White cardstock: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″
  • Botanical Butterfly DSP – Black & white butterfly print: 5-1/4″ x 4″; 1″ x 4″
  • Botanical Butterfly DSP – Select desired colored butterfly and punch or fussy cut one butterfly
  • Daffodil Delight cardstock: 4-1/4″ x 3″
  • Gingham Gala DSP: 4″ x 2-3/4″
  • Vellum cardstock: 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″
  • Whisper White:  2″ x 2-1/2″ for sentiment
  1. Score Thick Whisper White at 4-1/4″ and fold to create the card base.
  2. Using Snail Adhesive, attach the larger piece of Botanical Butterfly DSP to the card base.
  3. Adhere the Gingham Gala DSP to the Daffodil Delight cardstock.  Center and attach the 1″ x 4″ strip of the Botanical Butterfly DSP to the Gingham Gala DSP layer. With the 2-1/4″ circle punch, cut the vellum cardstock.  Attach to circle the center of the yellow layer piece.
  4. Wrap Daffodil Delight Ribbon around the yellow layer piece and tie a side knot.  Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to attach to the card.  Notice the ribbon this card, it is from the Organdy Ribbon Combo Pack in the Sale-a-Bration brochure and is another FREE item with qualifying purchase.  Due to it’s popularity, it has sold out.  It is on reorder and will be available again in early March and only while supplies last.
  5. Stamp the sentiment using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  The sentiment chosen is from the Beauty Abounds Stamp Set in the Occasions Catalog.  After stamping, use the Pretty Label punch to cut the shape.  Position as shown on the card above and attach with adhesive.
  6. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to attach the colored butterfly to the center of the card and atop the vellum.  Optional: Use a Black Stampin’ Write Marker to hand draw the butterfly antennae.
  7. Complete embellishing the card using the Gingham Gala Adhesive-Backed Sequins.
Reminder:

Anniversary Card featuring Meant to Be

This week marks our wedding anniversary and when I saw The Meant to Be Bundle in the Occasions Catalog, I knew it would be the perfect to use for creating a special card for my husband.  The sentiments and Be Mine Stitched Framelits Dies offer countless combinations for making a variety of cards expressing loving feelings.  A color palette of Balmy Blue, Crumb Cake and Whisper White gives the card a more masculine appearance.  Notice the background and the white heart?  Texture on both comes from the Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (TIEF).  For a couple of months, this embossing folder sat idle in my craft room.  Now I can’t seem to use it enough!  The embossing folder gives the card that “little extra” touch.

Anniversary Card using Meant to Be Stamp Bundle from Stampin' Up!

Of course, the card interior and the envelope need a special touch to coordinate with the card.

Interior of Anniversary Card and Embellished Envelope using the Stampin' Up! Meant to Be Bundle

Card Exterior Directions:

  1. To create base, cut Crumb Cake cardstock 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″.  Score in center at 4-1/4″ and fold.
  2. Continue building card layers.  Adhere a 5-1/4″ x 4″ piece of Balmy Blue to the card base.
  3. Cut Whisper White cardstock 3-1/2″ x 4-3/4″.  Emboss with the Subtle Dynamic TIEF.   Use strong adhesive to attach to the Balmy Blue card layer.
  4. Select heart dies from the Be Mine Stitched Framelits Dies.  Cut large heart from a 3″ x 3-1/4″ piece Crumb Cake cardstock.  The floral open heart is cut from a 2-1/2″ square of Balmy Blue cardstock.
  5. Use a 2-1/4″ square of Whisper White cardstock to cut the stitched heart.  After cutting, texture emboss with the Subtle Dynamic TIEF.
  6. For the small hearts, use a 1-1/2″ x 4″ strip of Balmy Blue cardstock and the multiple hearts die.
  7. Use a strong adhesive to attach the 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon to the card.
  8. Stamp “Happy Anniversary” (from Beautiful Bouquet Stamp Set) using Crumb Cake Classic Stampin’ Pad onto a 1/2″ x 3″ strip of Whisper White cardstock.  Cut a V-notch at the end of the strip and layer on top of the burlap ribbon.  Add a small blue heart near the notched end.
  9. Complete card front by layering the cut valentines.  Attach using Stampin’ Dimensionals and mini-glue dots.
  10. Finish embellishment on card front by adding a triple layer Linen Thread bow.
Card Interior and Envelope Embellishment:
  1. Stamp the floral heart from the Meant to Be Cling Stamp Set using Balmy Blue Classic Stampin Pad onto 5-1/4″ x 4″ Whisper White cardstock.
  2. Stamp the sentiment inside of the heart using Crumb Cake Classic Stampin’ Pad. Attach to card interior using Snail adhesive.
  3. Use multipurpose liquid glue to attach a 2-1/2″ x 6″ piece of Crumb Cake DSP to the flap of a Whisper White Medium Envelope. Allow glue to dry.  Then using paper snips, trim around the flap edge.  Place a small heart in Balmy Blue cardstock to the flap.  The Crumb Cake DSP is from the Neutrals 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper pack.

Lots of love went into creating this special card and my husband loved the card!  Hope I have provided you with the inspiration you need to create a card for that “special” someone in your life.  You’ll find a list of the project materials at the end of this post.

How to Make a Note Card Box

A couple of weeks ago on my Facebook live demo featuring the Beautiful Butterfly Note Cards, a coordinating box for the note cards was shown.  In this post, I am showing you how to make a note card box for your note cards.  The box comfortably holds four note cards and envelopes.  Depending upon the note card embellishments, you can add up to six note cards.  My box coordinates with the butterfly cards but you can use the box instructions and embellish it to coordinate with your note card designs.

Note Card Box

Steps for making the box:

  1. Cut card stock 8″ x 10″.  The sample above uses Thick Whisper White card stock.
  2. Use the Simply Scored to score on the 10″ side at 1″, 4-3/4″, 5-3/4″ and 9-1/2″.
  3. Rotate paper and score the 8″ side at 1″, 6-3/8″ and 7-3/8″.Score lines for note card box.
  4. Refer to the directions in the photo below for cutting instructions.Note Box cut lines
  5. After cutting box shape should be as shown below.  Follow steps to trim flaps which helps create a neater fold.Next step for note box
  6. Turn box over so that right side is facing up.  Apply a strip of Tear and Tape along the 1/2″ edge.  Close the box so that the side edges align.Final steps to complete Note Card Box
  7.  Fold bottom and side tab flaps.  Apply a strip of Tear & Tape to the final flap to close the bottom of the box.  To make it easier to open and close the box,  create a notch in the center of the back of the box.
  8. Embellish box as desired.

Box Embellishment to coordinate with the Beautiful Butterfly Note Cards:Butterfly Note Card Box

  1. Cut Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper (DSP): 2 pieces at 3-1/2″ x 2″ and 2 pieces at 3/4″ x 2″.  Attach the DSP to the lower portion of the box front, back and sides.
  2. Create a belly band with 1-1/2″ x 11″ Grapefruit Grove cardstock.  Tip: Wrap the cardstock so that it closes in the front so you can cover the “seam” with the sentiment piece.  Slide the belly band so that it is just above the Gingham Gala DSP.
  3. On Whisper White cardstock, stamp a set of butterflies from the Butterfly Gala stamp set using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  Use the coordinating wing stamps to stamp the wings using Grapefruit Grove Classic Ink Pad – stamp off onto a scrap paper for a lighter shade.  Use the Butterfly Duet Punch to cut the butterflies.  Save 10% by purchasing it as a bundle.
  4. Stamp the sentiment from the Incredible Like You Photopolymer Stamp set in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  Punch with the 2″ circle punch.  Use the 2-1/4″ circle punch to cut the Grapefruit Grove Gingham Gala DSP.  Attach the sentiment to the DSP layer using Snail Adhesive.
  5. Wrap a piece of Whisper White 5/8″ Flax Ribbon around the box and tie in a knot.  Attach the sentiment using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  6. Finish embellishing the box by adding the Butterflies and Gingham Gala Adhesive Backed Sequins.
