Packaging for a Set of the Butterfly Cards

After making numerous cards with a butterfly theme, it became necessary to create packaging for a set of the butterfly cards.  The Acetate Card Boxes in the 2018-2019 Annual Catalog are perfect for packing the cards.  Instead of putting the cards in just a clear acetate box, decorate the box to add extra flair.  For consistency, I chose to use the butterfly theme for decorating the box.  It’s an easy project and now the cards are neatly packaged to present as a gift or to sell at a craft fair.  Best of all, the Butterfly Botanical Designer Series Paper and the Butterfly Elements are in the Sale-a-Bration brochure and each are FREE with qualifying purchases. Continue reading below for the steps to recreate this box to package your butterfly cards.

Acrylic Box embellished for Butterfly Cards

Decorating the Acetate Card Box

  1. Assemble the acetate card box.
  2. Use a 5-3/8″ x 5-5/8″ piece of Balmy Blue cardstock.  On the 5-3/8″ side, score at 1/2″ and 4-7/8″.  Add texture to the center area between the score lines using the Layering Leaves Dynamic Texture Embossing Folder.  Fold score lines and insert the cardstock into the box.
  3. Cut a 2″ x 5-3/4″ strip of Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper (DSP).   Attach to the center of the acetate box using Tear & Tape Adhesive.
  4. Stamp the “Just for You” sentiment from the Meant to Be Stamp set in Tuxedo Memento Black Ink onto a 3-1/2″ x 2-3/4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Cut using the large circle framelit dies from the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies.  Attach to the box using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  5. Embellish around the sentiment using the Butterfly Elements and adding a coordinating bow.

The Organdy Ribbon Combo Pack in the Sale-a-Bration brochure is currently sold out and will be available in early March while reorder supplies last.  The 1/8″ Grapefruit Grove Grain Ribbon is a good substitute to use for making a coordinating bow.

Now when you want to package a set of your card creations, you can easily decorate an acrylic box to coordinate with your cards.

Shimmery Foil Sheets

Another great product in the Sale-a-Bration catalog is the Lovely Lipstick and Grapefruit Grove Foil Sheets.  They are shimmery foil sheets that look amazing under light.  Use them beneath your sentiment, as a background or just as a small accent.  No matter how you use them, you won’t be disappointed.  When you get your hands on them you will agree that they are amazing.  These sheets are available for free in the Sale-a-Bration catalog with a $50 purchase.

The sheets can be used as accents on cards and boxes.  A good example is the Pillow Boxes in the video.

Place your a minimum order of $50 through my online store and select the Lovely Lipstick & Grapefruit Grove Foil Sheets from Sale-a-Bration.   Use them to take your creations up a notch!

How to Make a Note Card Box

A couple of weeks ago on my Facebook live demo featuring the Beautiful Butterfly Note Cards, a coordinating box for the note cards was shown.  In this post, I am showing you how to make a note card box for your note cards.  The box comfortably holds four note cards and envelopes.  Depending upon the note card embellishments, you can add up to six note cards.  My box coordinates with the butterfly cards but you can use the box instructions and embellish it to coordinate with your note card designs.

Note Card Box

Steps for making the box:

  1. Cut card stock 8″ x 10″.  The sample above uses Thick Whisper White card stock.
  2. Use the Simply Scored to score on the 10″ side at 1″, 4-3/4″, 5-3/4″ and 9-1/2″.
  3. Rotate paper and score the 8″ side at 1″, 6-3/8″ and 7-3/8″.Score lines for note card box.
  4. Refer to the directions in the photo below for cutting instructions.Note Box cut lines
  5. After cutting box shape should be as shown below.  Follow steps to trim flaps which helps create a neater fold.Next step for note box
  6. Turn box over so that right side is facing up.  Apply a strip of Tear and Tape along the 1/2″ edge.  Close the box so that the side edges align.Final steps to complete Note Card Box
  7.  Fold bottom and side tab flaps.  Apply a strip of Tear & Tape to the final flap to close the bottom of the box.  To make it easier to open and close the box,  create a notch in the center of the back of the box.
  8. Embellish box as desired.

Box Embellishment to coordinate with the Beautiful Butterfly Note Cards:Butterfly Note Card Box

  1. Cut Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper (DSP): 2 pieces at 3-1/2″ x 2″ and 2 pieces at 3/4″ x 2″.  Attach the DSP to the lower portion of the box front, back and sides.
  2. Create a belly band with 1-1/2″ x 11″ Grapefruit Grove cardstock.  Tip: Wrap the cardstock so that it closes in the front so you can cover the “seam” with the sentiment piece.  Slide the belly band so that it is just above the Gingham Gala DSP.
  3. On Whisper White cardstock, stamp a set of butterflies from the Butterfly Gala stamp set using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  Use the coordinating wing stamps to stamp the wings using Grapefruit Grove Classic Ink Pad – stamp off onto a scrap paper for a lighter shade.  Use the Butterfly Duet Punch to cut the butterflies.  Save 10% by purchasing it as a bundle.
  4. Stamp the sentiment from the Incredible Like You Photopolymer Stamp set in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  Punch with the 2″ circle punch.  Use the 2-1/4″ circle punch to cut the Grapefruit Grove Gingham Gala DSP.  Attach the sentiment to the DSP layer using Snail Adhesive.
  5. Wrap a piece of Whisper White 5/8″ Flax Ribbon around the box and tie in a knot.  Attach the sentiment using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  6. Finish embellishing the box by adding the Butterflies and Gingham Gala Adhesive Backed Sequins.

Catch a Snowflake Gable Box

The Stampin’ Up! Catch A Snowflake promotion is coming to an end this Friday, November 30th or while supplies last. This project highlights the Snowfall Thinlits Dies and the Snowflake Trinkets from the promotion.  Along with the dies, the coordinating stamp sets, Snow is Glistening and Happiness Surrounds, provide endless creative uses.

It is enjoyment to embellish gift boxes and bags. When I saw the various dies in the Snowflake Thinlits Dies set, I knew they were perfect for creating an embellishment to use on the Silver Mini Gable Boxes

Silver Mini Gable Box with Snowfall Thinlits Die Embellishment

To create the embellishment, select the largest snowflake die from the set to cut a snowflake from Whisper White cardstock.  This becomes the embellishment base.  Next, choose coordinating dies to cut snowflakes to layer from Night of Navy cardstock and Whisper White cardstock.  Refer to the photo above for a layering suggestion.  The fine-tip glue pen works great to adhere the snowflake pieces to one another.  With a mini glue dot, attach a Snowflake Trinket to the navy & white snowflake.   I recommend using multipurpose liquid adhesive to attach the layered snowflake to the base.

To complete the embellishment, create a tag by using Night of Navy ink to stamp the “For You” from the Snow is Glistening stamp set. To attach the Snowflake embellishment and tag onto the Silver Mini Gable Box, tie through the box handle using Night of Navy Medium Baker’s Twine and 1/8″ Sheer Whisper White Ribbon.

Just a reminder – this promotion ends on Friday, November 30 or while supplies last!  Place your product order here – Snowflake Showcase by Stampin’ Up!

A full list of project materials is listed at the end of the post.

Happy creating!

First Frost Baker’s Box

Happy Friday!  This week I am sharing another of the recent class projects, a First Frost Baker’s Box.  The Baker’s Boxes are a great size for adding a treats or other small gifts.  One of my favorite embellishments for boxes is to make a belly band and add embellishments so naturally, I decided to use one for this project.  For embellishment, the First Frost Bundle coordinates beautifully with the Frosted Floral Designer Series Paper (DSP).

To decorate the Baker’s Box, cut a 1-3/4″ wide strip of Frosted Floral Designer Series Paper (DSP) to create the belly band.  Since the DSP will not fit completely around the box, cut a piece of Blackberry Bliss card stock using the large Layering Ovals Framelit to connect the DSP and to act as a base for the embellishments.

The stamped floral uses the Blackberry Bliss and Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Markers to color the stamp, then “huff” by blowing your breath over the inked stamp to keep the ink moist and stamp onto a scrap of Whisper White card stock.  Cut using the Floral Bouquet Framelits.  Also use the Framelits to cut Blackberry Bliss, Mossy Meadow and Vellum images.  Cut a piece of Whisper White card stock using the large oval from the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies.  Stamp “enjoy” (from the Takeout Treats Stamp Set) using Blackberry Bliss Classic Stampin’ Pad on the right side of the oval.  Attach to the Blackberry Bliss oval on the baker’s box belly band.  Layer the cut embellishments onto the left side of the oval.  Finish by adding a doubled Linen Thread bow and scattering Basic Rhinestone Jewels around the paper.
