Summer Paradise

With Sale-a-Bration ending soon, I would like to share one of my favorite Sale-a-Bration products from the catalog.  The By the Bay stamp set is a beautiful stamp set for creating the most lovely Summer paradise cards.  Just look at the images, close your eyes and imagine the beach, the water, and the waves.  It’s a great image in our mind right?  So why not make it an image you can look at often?

Not only are the images beautiful but they are lots of fun to color.  For the card below, I used Shimmery White Cardstock for stamping the image onto and my Aqua Painter to color the image.  I find it relaxing to sit and color.  Even better is that I have never been brave enough to paint the front door of my house red, so I was able to fulfill my urge when coloring the door on the stamped image!  The colors used for this project are listed under the Project Materials.

One of the cards below that you can see in the catalog also highlights what could be a beautiful sunset.  I love the birds on the other card and soft coloring.  Nothing but serenity when you look at these images.

So did you pick up this stamp set during Sale-a-Bration?  If you didn’t, you still have time.  Visit my online store today.

Happy Stamping!

Featuring Needlepoint Nook

In an earlier post this week, the Needlepoint Nook bundle was introduced to you.  Today, I am featuring the Needlepoint Nook bundle in three different cards.  The Needlepoint Nook Designer Series Paper is especially highlighted.  The detail of the designer series paper is amazing!  You are able to see the individual embroidery strands of the stitches.  With such detail, it makes creating cards simple since the paper can be the feature element.

Helpful Hints:

As you look at the samples, notice the first two from the left are very simple cards.  The pink card really features the paper with just a ribbon tie and a stamped sentiment added.  This card is perfect for the beginning stamper or anyone needing a quick to make card.  To create the sentiment, first use the Needlepoint Elements Framelits Die to emboss embroidery stitching on a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Next you will stamp the sentiment into the center of the embossed piece.  Lastly, cut the shape using the coordinating Pretty Label Punch.

The blue butterfly card includes a “tuxedo” fold to add interest to the card front.  The double-sided designer series paper is great since the reverse design coordinates perfectly.  To create the “tuxedo” look, mark the midpoint of the designer series paper. For the sample above, the designer series paper is 5-1/4″ x 4″ so the midpoint is 2″ from right edge and 2-9/16″ from top (the Stampin’ Trimmer is the perfect tool to use!).  After marking the midpoint, cut from the midpoint to the right edge.  Fold back the flaps to create the “tuxedo” collar.  After folding, attach the designer series paper to a 5-1/4″ x 4″ piece of whisper white cardstock.

The far right sample is good transition card for a beginning stamper to build upon their skills.  The layered embellishment and sentiment are stamped using colors that coordinate with the paper.  With the Needlepoint Elements Dies it is easy to cut the shapes.  To add more visual interest, snip between each strand of the Flax Ribbon and separate the strands.

Remember for a 10% savings, order the Needle & Thread Bundle.  The bundle includes the Needle & Thread Photopolymer Stamp Set and the Needlepoint Elements Dies.

Thanks for stopping by!  Happy crafting…

Animal Crackers Gift Tags

Remember Animal Crackers?  As a young child, it was always a treat to receive a box of the animal shaped cookies.  On a recent trip to the grocery, I spied the Animal Crackers on the cookie aisle and childhood memories returned.  Therefore, two boxes were quickly added to my shopping cart – one for each grandchild.  Like any gift, a tag is necessary!  Therefore, the Animal Crackers Gift Tags were created. Just look at the box front – there ‘s a gorilla and a giraffe!  Using the box design as my inspiration, I knew the Hey Love stamp set from the Occasions catalog and the Animal Outing stamp set in the Annual Catalog would be perfect to use for creating the gift tags.

Both my grandson and granddaughter enjoyed their box of Animal Crackers.  Did they really notice the gift tag?  Probably not but since the tags were quick to make, I was not offended.  But it sure was fun “dressing up” the Animal Crackers boxes!  Details for creating the tags is below.

Materials:
  • Hey Love Cling Stamp Set
  • Animal Outing Stamp Set
  • Whisper White cardstock (great use of scraps – one piece 3″ x 3″ for giraffe, one piece 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ for gorilla, one 1-1/4″ x 1-1/4″ for tag)
  • Daffodil Delight cardstock (2 – 3″ x 3″ pieces)
  • Tropical Escape Designer Series Paper (2-3/4′ x 2-3/4″) or select a favorite Designer Series Paper to layer behind Gorilla circle
  • Jet Black Stazon Ink
  • Watercolor Pencils
  • Blender Pen
  • Stampin’ Blends (Daffodil Delight & Crumb Cake)
  • Stitched Shapes Framelits
  • 2-1/4″ circle punch
  • Layering Circles Framelits
  • Snail Adhesive
  • 1/8″ Handheld Circle Punch
  • Basic Black Baker’s Twine
  • 1/4″ Daffodil Delight Double-Stitched Ribbon
  • Daffodil Delight Organdy Ribbon (Sale-a-Bration item)
  • Snail Adhesive and mini-stampin’ dimensionals
Directions:
  1.  On Whisper White cardstock squares, use the Jet Black Stazon Ink to stamp the gorilla and sentiment tag.  On the larger square, stamp the giraffe off to the side leaving room to stamp the sentiment .
  2.  Color the gorilla using the watercolor pencils and blender pen.
  3.  Use the Stampin’ Blends to color the giraffe.
  4.  Cut both pieces of the Daffodil Delight cardstock with the large Stitched Shapes Circle Framelit.  This becomes the base layer.
  5.  The “I’m Ape Over You” sentiment is cut with the small Stitched Shapes Circle Framelit.
  6.  With the 2-1/4″ punch, punch the gorilla circle.
  7.  Cut the giraffe and the Designer Series Paper with the Layering Circles Framelits.
  8.  Use snail adhesive to attach the giraffe circle to one of the Daffodil Delight cardstock circles.
  9.  Layer each of the pieces for the gorilla tag and attach each layer using snail adhesive.  Refer to photo for placement of the sentiment and attach using a mini-dimensional.
  10.  Punch a small hole for the ribbon in top of each tag using the handheld punch.   Cut desired length of ribbon and baker’s twine to feed through hole and tie to box handle.

The next time you are in the grocery, cruise down the cookie aisle and slip a couple of boxes of Animal Crackers into your cart!   Then have some fun creating tags for the boxes!

Packaging for a Set of the Butterfly Cards

After making numerous cards with a butterfly theme, it became necessary to create packaging for a set of the butterfly cards.  The Acetate Card Boxes in the 2018-2019 Annual Catalog are perfect for packing the cards.  Instead of putting the cards in just a clear acetate box, decorate the box to add extra flair.  For consistency, I chose to use the butterfly theme for decorating the box.  It’s an easy project and now the cards are neatly packaged to present as a gift or to sell at a craft fair.  Best of all, the Butterfly Botanical Designer Series Paper and the Butterfly Elements are in the Sale-a-Bration brochure and each are FREE with qualifying purchases. Continue reading below for the steps to recreate this box to package your butterfly cards.

Acrylic Box embellished for Butterfly Cards

Decorating the Acetate Card Box

  1. Assemble the acetate card box.
  2. Use a 5-3/8″ x 5-5/8″ piece of Balmy Blue cardstock.  On the 5-3/8″ side, score at 1/2″ and 4-7/8″.  Add texture to the center area between the score lines using the Layering Leaves Dynamic Texture Embossing Folder.  Fold score lines and insert the cardstock into the box.
  3. Cut a 2″ x 5-3/4″ strip of Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper (DSP).   Attach to the center of the acetate box using Tear & Tape Adhesive.
  4. Stamp the “Just for You” sentiment from the Meant to Be Stamp set in Tuxedo Memento Black Ink onto a 3-1/2″ x 2-3/4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Cut using the large circle framelit dies from the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies.  Attach to the box using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  5. Embellish around the sentiment using the Butterfly Elements and adding a coordinating bow.

The Organdy Ribbon Combo Pack in the Sale-a-Bration brochure is currently sold out and will be available in early March while reorder supplies last.  The 1/8″ Grapefruit Grove Grain Ribbon is a good substitute to use for making a coordinating bow.

Now when you want to package a set of your card creations, you can easily decorate an acrylic box to coordinate with your cards.

How to Make a Note Card Box

A couple of weeks ago on my Facebook live demo featuring the Beautiful Butterfly Note Cards, a coordinating box for the note cards was shown.  In this post, I am showing you how to make a note card box for your note cards.  The box comfortably holds four note cards and envelopes.  Depending upon the note card embellishments, you can add up to six note cards.  My box coordinates with the butterfly cards but you can use the box instructions and embellish it to coordinate with your note card designs.

Note Card Box

Steps for making the box:

  1. Cut card stock 8″ x 10″.  The sample above uses Thick Whisper White card stock.
  2. Use the Simply Scored to score on the 10″ side at 1″, 4-3/4″, 5-3/4″ and 9-1/2″.
  3. Rotate paper and score the 8″ side at 1″, 6-3/8″ and 7-3/8″.Score lines for note card box.
  4. Refer to the directions in the photo below for cutting instructions.Note Box cut lines
  5. After cutting box shape should be as shown below.  Follow steps to trim flaps which helps create a neater fold.Next step for note box
  6. Turn box over so that right side is facing up.  Apply a strip of Tear and Tape along the 1/2″ edge.  Close the box so that the side edges align.Final steps to complete Note Card Box
  7.  Fold bottom and side tab flaps.  Apply a strip of Tear & Tape to the final flap to close the bottom of the box.  To make it easier to open and close the box,  create a notch in the center of the back of the box.
  8. Embellish box as desired.

Box Embellishment to coordinate with the Beautiful Butterfly Note Cards:Butterfly Note Card Box

  1. Cut Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper (DSP): 2 pieces at 3-1/2″ x 2″ and 2 pieces at 3/4″ x 2″.  Attach the DSP to the lower portion of the box front, back and sides.
  2. Create a belly band with 1-1/2″ x 11″ Grapefruit Grove cardstock.  Tip: Wrap the cardstock so that it closes in the front so you can cover the “seam” with the sentiment piece.  Slide the belly band so that it is just above the Gingham Gala DSP.
  3. On Whisper White cardstock, stamp a set of butterflies from the Butterfly Gala stamp set using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  Use the coordinating wing stamps to stamp the wings using Grapefruit Grove Classic Ink Pad – stamp off onto a scrap paper for a lighter shade.  Use the Butterfly Duet Punch to cut the butterflies.  Save 10% by purchasing it as a bundle.
  4. Stamp the sentiment from the Incredible Like You Photopolymer Stamp set in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  Punch with the 2″ circle punch.  Use the 2-1/4″ circle punch to cut the Grapefruit Grove Gingham Gala DSP.  Attach the sentiment to the DSP layer using Snail Adhesive.
  5. Wrap a piece of Whisper White 5/8″ Flax Ribbon around the box and tie in a knot.  Attach the sentiment using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  6. Finish embellishing the box by adding the Butterflies and Gingham Gala Adhesive Backed Sequins.

Holly, Jolly & Bright! Quick & Easy

Need a quick and easy holiday card? The design on this Holly, Jolly & Bright card is your “go-to” card layout.  The card design is one of my favorite to use year round but it is especially useful during the hectic holiday season.  A combination of project suites from the Stampin’ Up! Holiday catalog come together to create the card in the photo.  The sentiment is found in the Peaceful Noel Stamp Set.   While the Festive Farmhouse suite of products offers the Festive Farmhouse Designer Series Paper (DSP) and Cherry Cobbler Twine

To take the card “up a notch” with more visual appeal, wrap the twine multiple times around the card.  Then add extra bling by using the Sprig Punch to cut the Sparkle Glimmer paper.

Holly, Jolly & Bright quick & easy holiday card

Just a comment about the new Glimmer Paper –  the glimmer stays on the paper so the glitter is not all over your craft room.  There are four colors of Glimmer Paper in the Annual Catalog and additional colors in the Joyous Noel Suite in the Holiday Catalog.
