Packaging for a Set of the Butterfly Cards

After making numerous cards with a butterfly theme, it became necessary to create packaging for a set of the butterfly cards.  The Acetate Card Boxes in the 2018-2019 Annual Catalog are perfect for packing the cards.  Instead of putting the cards in just a clear acetate box, decorate the box to add extra flair.  For consistency, I chose to use the butterfly theme for decorating the box.  It’s an easy project and now the cards are neatly packaged to present as a gift or to sell at a craft fair.  Best of all, the Butterfly Botanical Designer Series Paper and the Butterfly Elements are in the Sale-a-Bration brochure and each are FREE with qualifying purchases. Continue reading below for the steps to recreate this box to package your butterfly cards.

Acrylic Box embellished for Butterfly Cards

Decorating the Acetate Card Box

  1. Assemble the acetate card box.
  2. Use a 5-3/8″ x 5-5/8″ piece of Balmy Blue cardstock.  On the 5-3/8″ side, score at 1/2″ and 4-7/8″.  Add texture to the center area between the score lines using the Layering Leaves Dynamic Texture Embossing Folder.  Fold score lines and insert the cardstock into the box.
  3. Cut a 2″ x 5-3/4″ strip of Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper (DSP).   Attach to the center of the acetate box using Tear & Tape Adhesive.
  4. Stamp the “Just for You” sentiment from the Meant to Be Stamp set in Tuxedo Memento Black Ink onto a 3-1/2″ x 2-3/4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Cut using the large circle framelit dies from the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies.  Attach to the box using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  5. Embellish around the sentiment using the Butterfly Elements and adding a coordinating bow.

The Organdy Ribbon Combo Pack in the Sale-a-Bration brochure is currently sold out and will be available in early March while reorder supplies last.  The 1/8″ Grapefruit Grove Grain Ribbon is a good substitute to use for making a coordinating bow.

Now when you want to package a set of your card creations, you can easily decorate an acrylic box to coordinate with your cards.

Card Featuring the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper

A card featuring the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper was a design in the All About Butterflies class.  The paper is in the current Sale-A-Bration brochure and you can select it for FREE with a $50 purchase.  This is one of my favorite papers.  Best of all, several of the butterfly designs coordinate with the Butterfly Duet Punch, therefore, no fussy cutting.  Since the Designer Series Paper (DSP) is a double-sided design, options for color combinations is endless.

First, I want to share the inspiration card.  The 4″ x 4″ card was received from Patty Bennett.  The combination of papers adds to the beauty of the card.  You will notice that the only stamping is the sentiment.  Since the technique is primarily paper layering, it is a simple design.  Using her design layout, I made a standard 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ card to use for one of the class projects.

Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper

Now for the class card:

Card Featuring Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper

Notice how well the Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper coordinates with the black and white design on the Botanical Butterfly DSP.  As you compare the designs, note the slight variations such as the different ribbon and no embossing on the vellum.  However, the layout design is the same.  Details for creating the class card are below.

Card Directions:

Cut cardstock and paper as follows:

  • Thick Whisper White cardstock: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″
  • Botanical Butterfly DSP – Black & white butterfly print: 5-1/4″ x 4″; 1″ x 4″
  • Botanical Butterfly DSP – Select desired colored butterfly and punch or fussy cut one butterfly
  • Daffodil Delight cardstock: 4-1/4″ x 3″
  • Gingham Gala DSP: 4″ x 2-3/4″
  • Vellum cardstock: 2-1/2″ x 2-1/2″
  • Whisper White:  2″ x 2-1/2″ for sentiment
  1. Score Thick Whisper White at 4-1/4″ and fold to create the card base.
  2. Using Snail Adhesive, attach the larger piece of Botanical Butterfly DSP to the card base.
  3. Adhere the Gingham Gala DSP to the Daffodil Delight cardstock.  Center and attach the 1″ x 4″ strip of the Botanical Butterfly DSP to the Gingham Gala DSP layer. With the 2-1/4″ circle punch, cut the vellum cardstock.  Attach to circle the center of the yellow layer piece.
  4. Wrap Daffodil Delight Ribbon around the yellow layer piece and tie a side knot.  Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to attach to the card.  Notice the ribbon this card, it is from the Organdy Ribbon Combo Pack in the Sale-a-Bration brochure and is another FREE item with qualifying purchase.  Due to it’s popularity, it has sold out.  It is on reorder and will be available again in early March and only while supplies last.
  5. Stamp the sentiment using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink.  The sentiment chosen is from the Beauty Abounds Stamp Set in the Occasions Catalog.  After stamping, use the Pretty Label punch to cut the shape.  Position as shown on the card above and attach with adhesive.
  6. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to attach the colored butterfly to the center of the card and atop the vellum.  Optional: Use a Black Stampin’ Write Marker to hand draw the butterfly antennae.
  7. Complete embellishing the card using the Gingham Gala Adhesive-Backed Sequins.

Swap Card featuring Sale-a-Bration Lasting Lily Stamp Set

For a recent team meeting,  I made a swap card featuring the Sale-a-Bration Lasting Lily stamp set.  It is a simple card that is perfect for all levels of card makers.  The Lasting Lily stamp set is FREE with a $100 purchase (before taxes/shipping).  The set contains 16 photopolymer stamps.   The beauty of the lilies are the Distinktive style stamp.  This means the stamp is designed to lay down the ink in a way to obtain varying depths of color.  Don’t you love the definition in the flowers?  This is all done with the Distinktive stamp and does not require multiple step stamping.  In addition, there are some wonderful sentiments with the set.

Stampin' Up! Lasting Lily Stamp Set in Highland Heather

A couple of tips when using the Distinktive style of stamp:

  1. To obtain a clear stamped impression, do not use a “juicy” ink pad since it will overfill the impressions.  To solve the problem of a juicy pad, use the back of a spoon to push the ink to one end of the stamp pad.  This will create a drier area to use for stamping.  How can you tell if your ink pad is too juicy?  Ink the stamp and look for ink bubbles or blotches.  If there are bubbles or blotches your pad has too much ink.  After stamping the flowers, use the back of the spoon to move the ink back into the stamp pad.  By pushing the ink to one side of the pad, you will not be wasting the ink in your pad.
  2. You do not want to overfill your stamp and loose the distinktive impression.  To avoid this, try not to press the stamp into the ink pad.  Be sure to tap, tap, tap  the stamp onto the ink pad.  Just by employing this method, I found that the perfect amount of ink was picked up by the stamp creating the desired stamped image.
  3. To achieve even pressure, use a Stampin’ pierce mat with the photopolymer stamps.

Card Directions:

  1. Card Base: Thick Whisper White Cardstock: 4-1/4″ x 11″, score at 5-1/2″ to create a top fold card.
  2. Cut Highland Heather Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper (DSP) 5-1/4″ x 4″ and attach to Whisper White card base using Snail Adhesive.
  3. For the 3rd layer, cut Highland Heather Cardstock: 4-3/4″ x 3-1/2″ and emboss using the Subtle Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
  4. Stamp the lilies using Highland Heather Classic Ink Pad onto a piece of 4-1/4″ x 3″ Whisper White cardstock.  For the stems, use Pear Pizzazz Classic Ink Pad.
  5. To attach the flower layer to the embossed Highland Heather layer, use Snail Adhesive.  Finish by attaching to card front with stampin’ dimensionals.
  6. Add the desired sentiment to the card.  For this card, the sentiment is from the Home to Roost Sale-a-Bration stamp set.  Punch using the 1-1/4″ circle punch and attach to card front using adhesive.
  7. To complete the card, add a bow and rhinestone basic jewels.  The ribbon is another Sale-a-Bration item (Organdy Ribbon Combo Pack).  Note: You can also dye a white ribbon using the Highland Heather ink refill or your ink pad.

The full list of materials for this card is under Project Materials at the end of the post. To order your stamping supplies for this project,  click on the product links or shop for items through my online store.  And once you reach an order total of $100, you can select the Lasting Lily stamp set for FREE!  Remember, shopping is available 24-7!

Vibrant Butterfly Card

This month’s card class is “All About Butterflies” and this vibrant butterfly card featuring the Butterfly Gala Bundle is one of the cards being featured.  Combining the color palette of Blueberry Bushel and Lemon Lime Twist creates a cheerful and vibrant card.  The sentiment is from the Love What You Do stamp set in the All Occasions Catalog.

Butterfly Gala Bundle featuring Sponge Technique

The card base uses Blueberry Bushel cardstock topped with a layer of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock.  The black polka dot DSP (3-3/4″ x 3-1/4″) is the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper from the Sale-A-Bration Brochure – it’s free with a $50 order (before tax & shipping).  The Lemon Lime Twist gingham plaid (3-3/4″ x 1-3/4″) is from the Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper 6″ x 6″ pack.  Abut the two pieces of DSP and cover the seam with the Lemon Lime Twist Mini Ruffled Ribbon.

The sponge technique was used to color the butterflies.

First, stamp the butterflies on Whisper White cardstock using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.   For the large butterfly, working from the center outward, use a sponge dauber to apply the ink to the center area of the butterfly with Lemon Lime Twist Classic Stampin’ Ink.  Follow by sponging a small strip on each wing using Granny Apple Green Classic Stampin’ Ink.  Finish by stamping the outer wing edges with Blueberry Bushel Classic Stampin’ Ink.

For the small butterflies, sponge with the Lemon Lime Twist and Granny Apple green only.  Be sure to stamp the butterfly bodies using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.  Use the Dual Butterfly punch to cut the butterflies.  Stamp the sentiment onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and cut using the 2-1/4″ circle punch.  Layer on a Blueberry Bushel cardstock circle cut with a 2-1/2″ layering circle framelit.  Attach butterflies and sentiment as shown in the photo.  Embellish the butterflies with basic rhinestone jewels and add a couple of the Gingham Gala Adhesive-Backed Sequins.
