Zany Zoo – Forest Friends Hello

If you’re looking for a fun stamp set, look no further!  The Zany Zoo Bundle from Stampin’ Up! is it.  And to make the fun even better, add the coordinating Zoo Crew Designer Series Paper and you have a multitude of project possibilities.  For today’s project, the card is titled “forest friends” for the skunk and bird image.  This image has a stamp but for the card the coordinating die and designer series paper image were used.  You’ll find the sentiment in the Artistically Inked Stamp Set or select your favorite sentiment. To embellish the envelope, the image is stamped and colored using Stampin’ Blends.

Playing In The Rain Fun Fold

This week I am featuring a cheerful fun fold card using the  Playing In The Rain bundle.  The recent class focused on Playing In The Rain Bundle and this is one of the cards participants were able to create.  Isn’t that bunny cute!  Though the stamp set includes the bunny, this bunny is from the Rain or Shine Designer Series Paper.  A  coordinating die from the Playing In The Rain dies makes it easy to cut the bunny shape.  More of the designer series paper is used for the background prints on the card.  Who doesn’t like a cheerful card?!

Cut Dimensions for the Playing In The Rain Fun Fold Card:
  • Mango Melody Cardstock (Base: 4-1/4″ x 11″, score at 2-3/4″ and 5-1/2″; 3″ x 4-1/4″; scrap for kite die cut)
  • Rain or Shine Specialty Designer Series Paper (floral print – 2 pieces cut 2-1/2″ x 4″; checked print 4″ x 5-1/4″ for interior; 2-1/2″ x 6″ for envelope; bunny for die cut)
  • Basic White Cardstock (2 pieces 2-3/4″ x 4″)
  • Basic Black Cardstock (scrap 1-1/2″ x 4″ for kite)

Background Stamping with Rubber Bands

A few months ago, I attended an online retreat offered by a team of other Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators.  One of the presenters, Brandy Cox, demonstrated background stamping with rubber bands.  I know – it sounds crazy! But wait until you see what you can create.  It’s very simple and only requires a clear block, rubber bands and inks.  My feature card uses three of the 2022-2024 In Color inks: Parakeet Party, Starry Sky and Sweet Sorbet to create a cheerful background for a sweet songbird.

How to use rubber bands for background stamping:
  • Using a variety of rubber band sizes, wrap the rubber bands around a clear stamping block. As you see in the photo below, you can crisscross and have the rubber bands going in a variety of directions.  Try to not twist the rubber bands but sometime it’s unavoidable.  Wrap as many or as few as you wish.

  • After wrapping, select the desired ink colors you wish to use.  Working with one ink color at a time, ink the rubber bands by tapping the ink pad across the rubber bands.  I found it easiest to apply ink this way versus pressing the block onto the ink pad.
  • Stamp onto your cardstock and gently rock (yes, in this case, we do slightly rock the block). At this point, you can reink or stamp off an additional time prior to re-inking the rubber bands.  Using the same color, stamp randomly on the cardstock.
  • Once you’re satisfied with the coverage of the first color, clean the rubber bands by holding under running water or use a very wet Shammy to blot clean (do not wipe as it may cause your rubber bands to shift).
  • Repeat process for each of your selected colors. NOTE:  if you wish, you could add rubber bands to multiple blocks and use a separate block for each color.

WARNING: This technique is addictive!!!

Here are two other cards created using the same technique. For both of these cards, Mossy Meadow, Old Olive and Granny Apple Green inks are used. TIP: start with light color and move to dark color if using same color family (in this case, green color family).  The background is perfect for the animal images from the Wild & Sweet Stamp Set.  No sentiment needed!

Whimsy & Wonder Merry Christmas

This fun Whimsy & Wonder Merry Christmas card  features the Whimsy & Wonder Specialty Designer Series Paper.  Even the packages used for embellishing the front are cut from the gorgeous designer series paper.  The non-traditional colors in the paper helps to create a fun, cheerful holiday card.  Of course, ask my granddaughter and she’ll tell you that yes, pink is a Christmas color.  She actually has a pink Christmas tree for her bedroom!  So naturally, it is a must that I use the Whimsy & Wonder Specialty Designer Series Paper.  Below are photos of the card one with a Polished Pink border and one with a white border.  You’ll have to watch the assembly video to learn the details:)

Card Details:
  • Basic White Thick cardstock 4-1/4″ x 11″, score and fold at 5-1/2″ for form card base.  Scrap piece to stamp and fussy cut the Merry Christmas sentiment.
  • Whimsy & Wonder Specialty Designer Series Paper: Snowflake Design layer 5-1/2″ x 4″; fussy cut 4 presents from the designer paper to use on the card front.
  • 1-1/2″ x 4″ strip of Polished Pink In-Color Shimmer Vellum – Cut the strip using the long, narrow die from the Seasonal Labels Dies.  Attach to the front of the Snowflake Designer Series Paper and snip the overhanging edge before attaching to the card base (I forgot to do this in the assembly video!)
  • Add a Wonderful Snowflake Embellishment over the shimmer vellum, then layer the presents, adding the top present with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Stamp Merry Christmas using Polished Pink Classic Stampin’ Pad and fussy cut around the greeting.  Note: select your favorite Merry Christmas font (I used the Christmas to Remember & the Holly Jolly Wishes Stamp Sets) Attach the greeting using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Don’t forget to embellish the envelope flap with the Whimsy & Wonder Designer Series Paper.  It adds the finishing touch! Be sure to register to follow my posts, I’ll be sharing a Whimsy & Wonder gift tag soon.
