Alex’s Birthday Card

As we adjust to social distancing and a change in our routines, my focus has been on family so my posts have been few.  It’s not that I’ve not had intentions to share projects with you but my mind has been elsewhere.  I’m sure many of you can relate.  Even though my posting has not been timely, I have found refuge in my craft space.  For me, it’s relaxing and a great respite from the virus news each day.  I hope you’re able to set aside time from your day to enjoy your crafting endeavors.  Be sure to share how you’re coping in the comment section at the end of the blog.

Remember a few weeks ago, I said “March Madness” was coming?  Well, we’re in the midst of a slew of March birthdays.  The most recent to celebrate is my grandson, Alex, who turned 11.  So, today I’m sharing Alex’s birthday card.  He’s a budding musician and eclectic music lover. When I saw the Music From The Heart Stamp Set in the Mini Catalog, I knew it would be perfect to use when making cards for Alex.  One of the instruments that Alex plays is the guitar so I used a couple of the stamps from the set to create a guitar for his card.  A Night of Navy color scheme was chosen so it would have a masculine feel.

Music Birthday Card

Alex’s Birthday Card Details:
  • Starting with a 4-1/4″ x 11″ piece of Night of Navy cardstock, score at 5-1/2″ and fold to create the card base.
  • Cut a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ Night of Navy striped paper from the Come Sail Away Designer Series Paper.  Attach to the Night of Navy card base.
  • Create layers three (3) and four (4) by use the Stitched Rectangles Dies to cut a piece of Night of Navy cardstock and a piece of Whisper White cardstock.
  • Create a guitar by stamping with the Music From the Heart stamp set and Night of Navy Classic Stampin’ Pad.  Stamp the “you rock” onto the card referring to photo for approximate placement.
  • The word “grandson” is stamped using the Make a Difference Stamp Set onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock.  After stamping, cut around the word and attach to top card layer using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • With the music note stamps, ink the stamps and stamp off twice before randomly stamping music notes onto the card front layer around the guitar.  By stamping off, the guitar stands out more.  Also use the music notes to stamp the envelope – no need to stamp off for the envelope.
  • Attach the top layer to the Navy Stitched Rectangle using adhesive.  Add to the card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • For the interior, Happy Birthday and a musical note scale is stamped to complete the card theme.

Interior of Music card

According to Alex, “the card was cool”. Which is his way of saying he liked the card!

March 3D Tutorial Bundle & Blog Hop

It’s a new month and to kick it off, we have the March 3D Tutorial Bundle!  In addition to the March 3D Tutorial Bundle, the team is featuring a blog hop.  We’re each sharing a project created to coordinate with our tutorial project.  The theme for this month is Spring Celebrations.

Remember, the projects designed for the 3D tutorial bundle aren’t available elsewhere online.  Therefore, you’ll receive EXCLUSIVE projects in the tutorial bundle.  In addition, you’ll receive both Imperial and Metric project measurements.

Here’s a Sneak Peek of the March 3D projects…March 3D Tutorial Bundle

For my coordinating project, I designed an Easter card by combining several stamp sets.  Don’t you agree the “little chick” from the Full of Happiness Stamp Set is cute and makes you think of Easter? Want to use the card for another Spring celebration?   Just change out the sentiment.  Easter Card

Card Details:
  • Create card base using a 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock.  Score at 4-1/4″ and fold along score line.
  • Use a 5-1/4″ x 4″ piece of Granny Apple Green cardstock for the second layer.  Attach to the card base with adhesive.
  • Cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock 5″ x 3-3/4″.  On the right side of the cardstock, stamp the chick from the Full of Happiness stamp set.  Use Daffodil Delight Classic Stampin’ Pad for the body, Pumpkin Pie Classic Stampin’ Pad for the feet and beak and Early Espresso Classic Stampin’ Pad for the eyes.
  • On a piece of Whisper White cardstock, stamp the egg shell outline using Sahara Sand Classic Stampin’ Pad.  If desired, add the speckles using the same color.  Cut using the coordinating Dino Dies.
  • Use the egg shell as a guide to determine where to stamp the greenery vines from the Thoughtful Blooms Stamp Set (this is a Sale-a-Bration Stamp Set, you can get it free with a $50 order!).  Remove the egg shell and stamp the vine using Granny Apple Green Classic Stampin’ Pad.  Also, stamp part of the vine below the chick’s feet.  Stamp small flowers on the vine using Gorgeous Grape Classic Stampin’ Pad.
  • Stamp “Easter Greetings” sentiment from Fable Friends Stamp Set on the card using the Gorgeous Grape Classic Stampin’ Pad.
  • With adhesive, add to the Granny Apple Green layer.
  • Adhere the egg shell to the card front.
  • With the Small Bloom Punch (Sale-a-Bration brochure offering), cut 5 flowers from the Pleased As Punch Designer Series Paper.
  • Using the open leaves dies in the Detailed Bands Dies, cut 2 sets of leaves.  Snip into pieces to length desired.  Add to the card front using Mini Glue Dots.
  • Next, position the 5 flower blooms so they are cascading from the egg shell and attach using Mini Glue Dots.  Lastly, complete the card by adding Rhinestone Basic Jewels to the center of each flower.

It’s a Tropical Theme

Today, it’s a Tropical Theme!  In an earlier post,  you saw a birthday card featuring the Tropical Oasis Suite.  I’m loving the suite!  The vibrancy and retro look of the Tropical Oasis Designer Series Paper definitely adds island cheer to projects.  The pineapple from In The Tropic Dies is perfect for adding to treat packaging, as well as, cards.  The two projects below were sent to Playtime with Paper team members in recognition of outstanding performance.  The Pineapple Box is a CASE from Cindee Wilkinson with dimension changes to fit the gift item.  To color the pineapple, I opted to sponge on color versus using the pigment sprinkles.   The congratulatory note card features the Timeless Tropical Bundle and the coordinating Designer Series Paper.

Team Gifts

For creating the note cards:

Use a Whisper White note card from the Note Card and Envelopes available in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog.  Select the coordinating Designer Series Paper (DSP) you wish to use, cut and attach to front of the note card.  Notice how I covered the entire front of the card.  The floral DSP is cut at 1-1/2: x 5″ and the green DSP is 2″ x 5″.  To cover the paper seam, use a strip of the 5/16″ Braided Burlap Trim.   For the sentiment (from Peaceful Moments Stamp Set), a sticker from the Tropcial Oasis Memories and More Card Pack is the perfect size to use.  Use the Timeless Tropical Bundle to stamp the flower and cut with the coordinating dies.  The flower to coordinate with the Designer Series Paper is stamped with Real Red ink and colored using the Daffodil Delights Stampin’ Blends.  With the leaf die, cut two leaves from Old Olive cardstock.  Layer onto card by sentiment and add a Champagne Rhinestone as final embellishment.

Yes, it’s winter but doesn’t this bundle make you think of warmth and tropical paradise?!  If you’d like to create with a tropical flair, you can order products needed below.

Just a reminder…

Celebrating Birthdays with Monthly 3D Tutorial Bundle

Welcome to February! Today, the team is celebrating birthdays with a blog hop!  In addition to the blog hop, the  3D Tutorial Bundle is available.  We’re each sharing a project created using the same stamp set or bundle that has been used in our Tutorial Bundle Project.  The theme for this month is celebrating birthdays.

The projects designed for the 3D tutorial bundle aren’t available elsewhere online.  Therefore, you’ll receive EXCLUSIVE projects in the tutorial bundle.  In addition, you’ll receive both Imperial and Metric project measurements.

Check out the amazing line up of project designers. Yes, they are pretty amazing and talented Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators!

Now for a Sneak Peek of the projects…

Since we’re celebrating birthdays, a birthday card design to coordinate with my 3D project design is needed.  The card uses the Peaceful Poppies Suite which includes the Painted Poppies Bundle and the Peaceful Moments Bundle.  Also, featured is the Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper.  I choose to use a special fold by using the Stitched Nested Labels Dies to create a closure flap.

Card Details:
  • Blackberry Bliss cardstock: card base  5-1/2″ x 7″ score at 4-1/4″; 5″ x 3″ for panel overlay; 2-1/4″ square for poppy
  • Whisper White cardstock: 4″ x 5-1/4″ for inside panel; 2-3/4″ x 4-1/2″ for panel overlay layer
  • Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper: 5-1/4″ x 2-1/2″ for front card panel; 5-1/4″ x 1-1/2″ for inside card panel; 2-1/4″ square for poppy
  • Attach Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper to the card front and the card interior.
  • Stamp interior sentiment using Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Pad.  Additionally, stamp a poppy with Blackberry Bliss and Memento Tuxedo Black ink to the interior panel.
  • With the 2nd largest Stitched Nested Labels Die, cut the Blackberry Bliss cardstock panel overlay.  Score one side of the panel where the “flag” end starts.  Adhere along the score line and fold flap to the interior Whisper White cardstock panel. (refer to photos below)
  • Using the 3rd largest Stitched Nested Labels Die, cut the Whisper White panel overlay layer.  Cut and remove one “flag” end.  Referring to the card photo for placement, stamp the sentiment using Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Pad.  Attach to the Blackberry Bliss panel overlay. (refer to photos below)
  • Cut the poppy components from the Blackberry Bliss and the Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper using the Peaceful Moments dies.
  • Cut two leaves from Old Olive cardstock and two leaves from Vellum cardstock using the Peaceful Moments Dies.  Use a splatter stamp from the Painted Poppies Stamp set and Old Olive Stampin’ Pad to add dimension to the Old Olive leaves.
  • Layer leaves and Poppy on the Whisper White panel beside the sentiment.
  • Use Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Blend to color three Basic Rhinestone Jewels and a 6″ strip of Whisper White 1/4″ Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon.   When dry, add rhinestones and a small bow to the card front.

Lily Impressions 3-D Project

This past Saturday, my upline, Gloria Plunkett hosted the Luv 2 Stampin GA team meeting.  During our meetings, we are able to spend time making various projects.  So today I am sharing a Lily Impressions 3-D project designed by Gloria for the team.   This special 3-D project is a small wreath that is the perfect size to hang by your desk or in a work cubicle.  Mine is going to hang in craft room by my work desk.  The project features the Lily Impressions Designer Series Paper.  This beautiful Lily Impressions is available in the Sale-a-Bration brochure.  With a purchase of $50 (before shipping & taxes), you can select  FREE.

Project Details:

To begin, use a 4″ Styrofoam wreath as the base.  Next, Lily Impressions Designer Series Paper is cut into strips and wrapped around the wreath.  When wrapping the strips, overlap the end of each strip and glue matching the ends of the Designer Series Paper strip.  Before wrapping the strips, cut a “v” in both ends of the paper strips.  TIP: When adding the strips, slightly overlap to cover the Styrofoam wreath.  For embellishing the wreath, use the Starburst Punch to cut a piece of Pretty Peacock cardstock.  Cut a stitched circle from Whisper White cardstock using the Stitched Shapes Dies.  Then, top with your initial cut from Melon Mambo cardstock using the Hand-Lettered Prose Dies.  NOTE: Cut three initials and layer to add dimension.  With the Sprig punch, cut two sprigs from  Sparkle Glimmer Paper.  Sandwich the sprigs between the Whisper White stitched circle and the Pretty Peacock cardstock.  Attach the circle to the middle of the wreath by using Multipurpose Liquid Glue along the edge of the cardstock circle.  Finish by adding a Whisper White Polka Dot ribbon bow on the front.  Glue a small ribbon circle on the back to use for hanging.

Isn’t this a cute wreath?  What’s great is you can create your own unique wreath by selecting other coordinating colors for the embellishment.  For a larger Styrofoam wreath, just adjust the length and width of the strips from the Designer Series Paper you select.

Thank you stopping by!
