Peony Gift Box

A friend recently had a birthday and to celebrate, I sent her a small gift. If you receive my newsletter, you’ll recall the peony birthday card along with instructions for creating the card.  As promised, I am sharing the coordinating Peony Gift Box that includes the inspiration for both the box and the birthday card.  One of my go-to places for small personal gifts is Bath & Body Works.  So after receiving an email showcasing a selection of peony bath gel and lotions, an order was quickly placed.  The items coordinate perfectly with products from the Peony Garden Suite Collection.

Peony Garden Gift Box

Project Details:

As you see in the photo, I crafted a box from a 12″ x 12″ Night of Navy cardstock (from the Neutrals 12″ x 12″ cardstock pack) cut to size for the box bottom plus it’s matches the blue on the Bath & Body Works products.  For the box top, a piece of the Peony Garden Designer Series Paper is cut to fit the box bottom.  For creating boxes, I use the instructions provided by Donna Griffith in her You Tube video, How to Make Your Own Box.  Her detailed instructions make it easy to create boxes sized specifically for a project.

After creating the box, use the Peony Dies to cut Blushing Bride cardstock for the flower.  Next, sponge each of the pieces for the flower using Melon Mambo Classic Stampin’ Pad before assembling.  Tip: When sponging, use a swiping motion with the sponge to drag the ink across the layer.  Now, assemble the peony.  And to create dimension between the peony layers, tuck Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals between the cardstock layers.  Finish the flower by adding the stamen using a mini glue dot.  The stamen is die cut from a scrap of Bumblebee cardstock.  Notice how the Stampin’ Up! colors match the peony colors on the lotion and gel containers perfectly?  For the leaves, cut 3 sets using the Peony Dies.  Garden Green cardstock forms the main leaf body and contrasting leaf edges use Old Olive cardstock.

Finishing the Peony Gift Box top:

Next, create a base for the peony label by cutting a piece of Night of Navy cardstock using the Tasteful Labels Dies.  Attach a Gold Foil circle cut with the 2-1/4″ circle punch to the Night of Navy label.  Finish by arranging the leaves and adding the peony to the label using Mini Glue Dots and Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Ribbon is wrapped around the center of the box lid and glued inside the flaps.  The Night of Navy ribbon on the project is retired and no longer available but you can substitute a Whisper White Ribbon or color a ribbon with Night of Navy Stampin’ Blends.  Add the Peony Label to the box using a strong adhesive such as Stampin’ Seal+.  Complete by adding a bow just below the peony on the label.  Add to the Night of Navy box bottom and your gift box is complete!

Here are additional views of the box:Peony Gift Box

It’s so much fun when you find products that coordinate with Stampin’ Up! stamps and papers!  Creative ideas abound!

Of course, the box coordinates also with the card…

Linda’s Card Class Projects

Today I am sharing two cards from Linda’s card class projects.  Linda is a member of my Playtime with Paper team.  In addition to being on my team, Linda leads her team, the Crafty Herons.  Due to COVID-19 precautions, we are temporarily offering online card classes vs the in person classes.  Participants in the classes purchase the project kits and join in via Zoom for the scheduled class.  So, last week Linda led a group of craft friends through construction of four projects.  Since I could not attend the class, Linda provided project photos.  And, I’m sharing two of the projects with you.  You’ll find the descriptions below each photo.

Ornate Garden CongratulationsCongratulations card

For the project above, the Ornate Garden Designer Series Paper provides a beautiful background.  Using the Ornate Border Dies, the designer series paper is cut before adding it to the Thick Whisper White cardstock base.  Next, cut a strip of Whisper White cardstock using the dies.  It overlays the designer series paper’s cut edge. Use the three flower dies in the set to also cut the flowers from Rococo Rose cardstock.  Then, add some shimmer to the flowers with the Clear Wink of Stella.  When dry, use Mini Glue Dots to add the flowers along the border.  The  sentiment is from the Peaceful Moments Stamp Set.  Stamp “Congratulations” onto the lower portion of the card using Rococo Rose Classic Stampin’ Pad.  Gilded Gems embellish the centers of each flower.  For that little extra touch, emboss the envelope flap using the Ornate Floral 3D Embossing Folder.

Forever Fern Happy Birthday
Forever Fern Birthday Card

To the Thick Whisper White cardstock base, add a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Pretty Peacock cardstock.  Next, add one of the Forever Gold Laser-Cut Specialty Paper rectangles to the Pretty Peacock layer.  Add a 1-1/4″ x 4″ strip of the Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper to the card front (referring to photo for approximate placement).  On a scrap of Whisper White cardstock, stamp the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Peaceful Moments Stamp Set using Pretty Peacock Classic Stampin’ Pad.  Cut the circle using either a 2″ Circle Punch or one of the Layering Circle Dies (keep the sentiment toward the top of the circle).  Select a variety of leaf dies from the Forever Flourishing dies and cut a piece of Just Jade cardstock, Old Olive cardstock and Soft Seafoam cardstock.  Layer the leaves and attach to one another using Mini Glue Dots.  Next, add a Gold Hoop Embellishment to the card and add the sentiment label in the center of the hoop using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Then, attach the layer of leaves to the lower portion of the sentiment label with adhesive.  Embellish the stem on the leaves with the gold metallic trim from the Forever Greenery Trim Combo Pack.

Thank you to Linda for the photos!  I am having fun completing her four class projects.

Red, White & Blue

Later this week, we celebrate the July 4th holiday in the U.S.  So, the design challenge for the Playtime with Paper team celebrates the holiday. Team members are to create a patriotic project using the Red, White & Blue color scheme.  Each week, it’s fun to see the cards and projects that team members create.  It’s always inspiring to see the different interpretations of the challenges. For my project, I chose to create a card that I’ll be mailing to friends. Since we’ll not be together this year, it’s a reminder to still celebrate!

Red, White & Blue

Here’s how to create the Red, White & Blue card:

For the card base, cut Night of Navy cardstock 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, then score at 4-1/4″ & fold. On the top portion of the card, the Playing with Patterns Designer Series (4″ x 2-3/4″) provides perfect faux fireworks.  On the bottom portion, add the red and white stripe from the Playful Pets Designer Series Paper (4″ x 2-1/2″).  To cover the seam of the designer series papers, use a 1″ x 4″ piece of Night of Navy cardstock.  With the Stitched Stars Dies, cut the chain of stars from a 1-3/4″ x 3-3/4″ strip of Real Red cardstock and add to the card using the Fine-Tip Glue Pen.  Additionally, the five red stars from the center of the star chain can be attached using Mini Glue Dots.  For the sentiment, use a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and Night of Navy Classic Ink Pad.  You’ll find the sentiment in the Itty Bitty Birthdays stamp set.  Cut using the Classic Label Punch and add to card with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.  For the final touch, embellish with Red Rhinestone Jewels.  If desired, add additional stars to the card interior.

Matchbook Style Treat Holder

Today’s project is a quick and easy Matchbook Style Treat Holder.  The treat holders were “a little something” in the June To-Go Class packages.  The new 2020-2022 In Color cardstock provides the coordinating base for the Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Paper.  I just love that the Flowers with Every Season Designer Series Paper coordinates with all of the new In Colors! The small packages of m&m candies fit perfectly inside the Matchbook Style Treat Holder but it’s easy to place other treats inside of a small cellophane bag to insert into the treat holder.

Matchbook Style Treat Holders

Side view of the Matchbook Style Treat Holder (with the package of m&m candies)

Side View of Matchbook Style Treat Holder

How To Create the Matchbook Style Treat Holder:

For the matchbook body: Cut a piece of cardstock 2-3/4″ x 8-1/2″.  Score at 3-1/2″, 4″ and 7-3/4″; burnish the score lines with a bone folder.  Then, fold along the 7-3/4″ score line and staple to create a tab to hold the top closed. (remember, we’re making a matchbook)

Next, cut the following:

  • coordinating cardstock – one piece at 2-1/2″ x 3-1/4″ and another piece at 2-1/2″ x 5/8″
  • Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Paper: one piece 2-1/2″ x 3″ & one piece 2-1/4″ x 1/2″

After cutting, add the designer series paper to the cardstock pieces using Stampin’ Seal.  Attach the layered panels to the front of the matchbook.

Stamp the “A Little Something” from the Parcels and Petal Stamp Set using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock.  After stamping, use the 1-1/2″ circle punch to cut (position so that the sentiment is toward the bottom of the circle leaving room for the ribbon).

Finish by tying a small bow using the 2020-2022 In Colors 1/4″ ribbon.  Add to the sentiment label using a Mini Glue Dot.

Don’t you love how simple it is to make these treat holders? One piece of 8-1/2 x 11″ cardstock will make four treat holders so you can create lots of treat holders quickly!

Personal note: I did a video showing how to make these treat holders and was all set to add it but alas, it’s sideways!  After several hours of trying to edit and correct, I gave up – the technology gremlins won!!!

No Stamping Card!

Yes, you read the title correctly! Today’s card is a “no stamping card.” When creating for the June “to go” class, I opted to make one card that would require no stamping.  The Sunflower Dies and the Flowers for Every Season provide the perfect combination to create a simple, lovely card without the use of stamps.  Of course, if you want to add a stamped sentiment, it’s easy to do.  I find it handy to have cards on hand without a sentiment and when a specific occasion arises, it’s easy to add the needed sentiment.  However, this card works great without a sentiment too!

Sunflower Card
Card Materials:
  • Card Base: Misty Moonlight cardstock cut at 4-1/4” x 11”, score at 5-1/2” and fold.
  • Layer 1: Whisper White cardstock – 5-1/4” x 4”
  • Layer 2: Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Paper (DSP) – 4” x 3”
  • Bumblebee cardstock: cut 2 @ 3-3/8” x 3-3/8”
  • Cinnamon Cider cardstock: 1-1/4” x 1-1/4”
  • Just Jade cardstock: 1-1/2” x 8”
  • Misty Moonlight ¼” In Color Ribbon
  • Sunflower Dies
  • Adhesive Sheets: 1 cut to 3-3/8” x 3-3/8” and 1
  • Stampin’ Seal
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • Mini Glue Dots
Card Directions:
  1. Attach the 3-3/8” x 3-3/8” Adhesive Sheet to one of the Bumblebee cardstock squares and add the other adhesive sheet to the Just Jade cardstock.
  2. Using Stampin’ Seal, attach the Flowers for Every Season DSP to the Whisper White cardstock. Add the piece 5” piece of the Misty Moonlight ¼” In Color Ribbon around the card (refer to photo for placement location).  Next, attach the Whisper White/DSP layer to the Misty Moonlight card base.
  3. Select the two large sunflower dies from the Sunflower Dies. Use the Sunflower Base Die to cut the sunflower shape from the 3-3/8” x 3-3/8” Bumblebee cardstock that does not have the adhesive sheet attached
  4. Next, cut the Bumblebee cardstock with the adhesive on the back with the petals Sunflower Die. Align the petals with the sunflower base, then remove the adhesive sheet backing and attach petals to create the sunflower.
  5. Using the sunflower center die, cut one from the Cinnamon Cider cardstock. Add to the center of the sunflower using a Stampin’ Dimensional.
  6. Select the large solid leaf die and the coordinating open leaf die from the Sunflower Dies. Cut 3 solid leaves from the 1-1/2” x 3” strip of Just Jade cardstock.  Cut 3 of the open leaves from the Just Jade cardstock with the adhesive sheet.  Layer the open leaves (veins) to the solid leaves – attach by removing the backing on the adhesive sheet.
  7. Referring to photo for placement, attach the leaves to the back of the sunflower using mini glue dots. Then, attach the sunflower to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  8. Finally, complete the front of the card by adding a small bow tied from the Misty Moonlight ¼” In Color Ribbon.
See how simple it is to create a beautiful card?!

Additional Tips: A must have for the sunflower dies are the Adhesive Sheets.  The adhesive sheets make it easy to attach the intricate cut pieces to their coordinating bases.

For an extra touch, use coordinating ink and a sponge dauber to add depth to the sunflower and the leaves.

Be sure to register under “Get My Posts” so that you’ll receive my blog updates.  I’ll be featuring a “stepped up” version of this card in the near future.  And yes, stamping will be involved! (lol)

Lovely Labels Pick A Punch

One of the new tools in the Annual Catalog is the Lovely Labels Pick A Punch.  The design provides six options allowing you to create a variety of labels.  Last week, I used the Lovely Labels Pick A Punch for the first time and it will definitely become one of my “go to” tools.  The video below highlights the features of the punch.  You can see the card using the punch below the video.

Here’s the card I created that uses the Lovely Label Pick A Punch:

The card base uses the Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Cards and Envelopes.  Three strips of the Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Paper are cut to fit inside the dotted line rectangular box on the card. Stamp the sentiment onto a 1/2″ strip of Whisper White cardstock and cut the ends using the Lovely Label Pick a Punch.  Create a layering label piece by cutting a 3/4″ piece of cardstock that coordinates with the card base.  Texture emboss the label using the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder. Add the sentiment label to the texture embossed label. Finish card by embellishing the label with leaf pieces from the Forever Gold Laser-Cut Specialty Paper. Then, attach the label to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
