A Fall Fun Fold Card

The Fall Fun Fold card is a change from the typical card design and “fun fold” definitely describes this card.  The card is one of the samples from the September class and showcases products from both current Stampin’ Up! Catalogs.  The Country Home Photopolymer Stamp Set can be found in the Annual Catalog on page 95.  Though it’s a great set to use year round, the milk can with the cotton bolls floral arrangement reminds me of Fall. The Come To Gather Designer Series Paper, from the Holiday Catalog, is added on the front fold panel.  Continue reading below the card photos for the card details.

Card Base:
  • First layer is Mint Macaron cardstock: 4-1/2″ x 8-1/2″.  Score and fold at 5-1/2″.
  • To create the slender folded panel, use Pretty Peacock cardstock. The size is 9-1/2″ x 2-1/2″.  Score and fold at 4-3/4″.
  • Referring to photos for the placement, attach the Pretty Peacock panel to the Mint Macaron card base using adhesive.
Card Panels:
  • Cut two panels of Whisper White cardstock 4-1/2″ x 2-1/4″.  On one of the panels, stamp the milk can using Basic Gray Classic Stampin’ Pad.  Stamp the florals with Early Espresso Classic Stampin’ Pad. Use Pretty Peacock Classic Stampin’ Pad for the sentiment.  TIP:  To make alignment and stamping easier, use the Stamparatus.
  • Use the following Stampin’ Blends:  Smoky Slate (light & dark for the milk can), Mint Macaron (light & dark for leaves),  Rich Razzleberry (dark for the berries), Daffodil Delight (dark for the center flower) and Cajun Craze (light and dark for the seed pods).
  • For the cotton bolls, add small touches of the Snowfall Accents Puff Paint and heat set.  TIP:  Work quickly as the puff paint is very thin (little goes a long way) and can dissolve the stamped image.  I suggest doing a section at a time.  Add a small amount of the Puff Paint, heat set and repeat.  If you look closely at my photo, you’ll notice the stamped image started to dissolve giving a “dirty” appearance to the cotton bolls.  Of course, cotton bolls aren’t all pristine white!
  • For the interior sentiment, stamp it with the Pretty Peacock on the other Whisper White panel.  The sentiment is from the Country Home Stamp Set. If desired, stamp the wheat sheath from the Gather Together using Crushed Curry Classic Stampin’ Pad to the side of the sentiment.
  • To complete the card,  add the panels to the Pretty Peacock fun fold piece with adhesive.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this Fall Fun Fold.  Credit for the fun fold goes to Dawn Olchefske at DO Stamping with Dawn.  She featured the fun fold on a project and I added the design to my “give it a try” list.  Now you can add it to your list!

Nature’s Beauty Fun Fold

One of the projects from the recent card classes is a fun fold card featuring the Nature’s Beauty Stamp Set.  If you’ve not seen the Nature’s Beauty Stamp Set, you must check it out on page 63 in the Holiday Catalog.  It was one of the first products on my order list.  Though the stamp set contains no sentiments, it’s a set perfect for creating a variety of nature inspired card and project designs.  The wildlife animals are good to use for creating masculine theme cards too.  It gets even better.  For every set that is sold, Stampin’ Up! will donate $3 to Mental Health Organizations.

Here’s a peek at all the stamps included in the Nature’s Beauty Stamp Set…

Card Details:
  • Cajun Craze cardstock is cut 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ for base.
  • Cut a piece of Pear Pizzazz 5-1/4″ x 6-3/4″ and score at 4″.  Fold on score line to create the card.  Attach to the Cajun Craze card base with Snail Adhesive.
  • The plaid piece is from the Come to Gather Designer Series Paper and is cut 2-1/2″ x 5″. To adhere to the front card flap, use Snail Adhesive.
  • The Whisper White card interior is 5″ x 3-3/4″.  The sentiment on the card is from the Free As A Bird stamp set.  Stamp the sentiment on the lower right corner of the exposed Whisper White using Cajun Craze Classic Stamp Pad.  Then, attach to the interior of the Pear Pizzazz.
  • On a 2-1/2″ scrap of Whisper White cardstock, stamp the Bunny using Soft Suede.  To the side of the bunny, stamp the reeds using So Saffron.  Cut with the next to smallest circle in the Stitched Shapes Dies.  Use the Layering Circles Dies to cut a scallop from Cajun Craze cardstock.  Attach the bunny piece to the scallop circle with Snail Adhesive.  Then attach the entire circle to the card front using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Refer to photo for placement.  TIP: Be sure to add the Stampin’ Dimensionals to the top half of the circle only.
  • Complete the card by adding a bow made using the Cajun Craze Linen Thread from the Come to Gather Ribbon Combo Pack.

Also, a big shout out and thank you to Cindee Wilkinson at Just Sponge It!  The fun fold was shown on one of her projects.   So, I used her dimensions for my nature inspired card.

Celebrating Birthdays

Today the monthly card class was held with the theme, “Celebrating Birthdays”.  As you can guess from the title, the projects were birthday cards.  In addition, several of the cards involved the use of different folds.  The feature card today is a crisscross fold pocket card and is the perfect card to use when you want to attach a gift card.  I originally saw this card design several years ago on Linda Heller’s Stamping School.  Though I had made the card design before it was not made in any of my previous classes.  It is a fun card design to use and can be tailored for any occasion. The card uses one 6″ x 12″ piece of Designer Series Paper so you can make two with one sheet of paper quickly.  Plus, it’s a great way to use up extra Designer Series Paper that you’ve been hoarding!

For the crisscross birthday card the Sale-a-Bration paper, Botanical Butterfly, was used.  This is definitely one of my all time favorite papers.  Remember, this designer series paper can be selected FREE with a $50 order until March 31 (or while supplies last).   The Amazing Life and Birthday Banners Photopolymer stamp sets combine perfectly for the card sentiments.

Materials:
  • Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper:  6″ x 12″, 3/4″ x 9-1/2″ coordinating strip for belly band
  • Whisper White Cardstock: 3″ x 2-1/4″ for cake oval; 1-1/2″ x 3″ for banner; 3-3/4″ x 5-1/4″ for interior piece
  • Grapefruit Grove Cardstock: 3″ x 2-1/2″ for oval; 1″ x 9-1/2″ for belly band
  • Stamp Sets: Amazing Life Photopolymer Stamp Set and Birthday Banners Photopolymer Stamp Set
  • Stazon Jet Black Ink
  • Grapefruit Grove Classic Stampin’ Pad
  • Stampin’ Write Markers: Bashful Blue, Daffodil Delight and Grapefruit Grove
  • Bunch of Banners Framelits Dies
  • Layering Ovals Framelits
  • Stitched Shapes Framelits
  • Detailed Trio Punch
  • Grapefruit Grove 1/8″ Grosgrain Ribbon: approximately 3″
  • Snail Adhesive
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • Stampin’ Trimmer
  • 1/8″ Handheld Punch (optional)
Cutting Directions:

I am providing written instructions but if you prefer a visual, check out Cindy Brumbaugh’s video.   Don’t let my written directions scare you – once you make one crisscross pocket card, you’ll see how easy it is!

  1. Along the 6″ side of the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper, score at 1/2″ the entire length of the paper.  NOTE: if the paper has a direction, be sure to score on the side that will be the bottom of the card so that the design direction is correct on the finished card.
  2. On the 12″ side of the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper, score at 4″ and 8″.
  3. TIP: Fold along score lines for ease in trimming.  To create a center tab that becomes the card pocket, use paper snips to cut on the 4″ and 8″ score line just up to the 1/2″ score line.  You will now have three 1/2″ x 4″ sections.  Remove the two outer sections by cutting along the 1/2″ score line up to where you snipped earlier.   You should have one 1/2″ x 4″ tab located in the center of the designer series paper.
  4. Next cut the side angles by placing the Designer Series Paper in the Stampin’ Trimmer.  Line up on a diagonal from the 4″ score line to the bottom edge (refer to photos below).  Repeat on other side.

Folding Directions:
  1. Proceed with finishing the pocket by folding the bottom flap up.  Apply snail adhesive to the flap back of the flap and fold one of the diagonal sides over the flap pressing to adhere to the adhesive.
  2. Fold remaining diagonal over creating the “crisscross” and use snail adhesive to adhere to other flap.
  3. Create the oval sentiment by stamping the cake onto the  whisper white cardstock using Stazon Jet Black ink pad.  Color as desired with Stampin’ Write Markers.  Cut using the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  Layer onto an oval of Grapefruit Grove Cardstock cut using the Layering Ovals Framelit.
  4. Stamp the sentiment for the banner and cut using the coordinating banner from the Bunches of Banners Framelits.
  5. Wrap the 1″ x 9-1/2″ strip of Grapefruit Grove around the card so that it meets in the front.  Layer and attach the coordinating strip of Designer Series Paper to the belly band.
  6. Attach the oval to the belly band and finish by placing the banner across the cake as shown in the card photo.
Inside Panel:
  1. Stamp sentiment on card with the Stazon Jet Black ink.
  2. Round corners of the card using the Detailed Trio Punch.
  3. Use the 1/8″ handheld punch to create a hole in the top center (or use the oblong circle on the Detailed Trio Punch).
  4. Add ribbon to create the pull tab.

Have fun creating your own crisscross designs!

Be sure to check back on Wednesday.  I’ll be sharing more cards from the Celebrating Birthdays class, as well as, showing you what other fun we enjoyed!

Z-Fold Birthday Surprise

Today I have a very special z-fold birthday surprise card.  It was designed by Cindee Wilkinson @ www.justspongeit.com.  Her design was originally for a wedding card, however, I changed the paper and included a birthday greeting inside the card.  The Designer Series Paper is our Share What You Love Specialty DSP.

Besides the DSP listed above, I used Basic Black Cardstock for the base.  I also used the Stitched All Around Bundle which includes the stamp set and coordinating framelits.  Additionally, for the sentiment, I stamped with versamark and heat embossed with Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder.  That gives it a raised and much more vivid impression on the card.  Finally, I finished by fussy cutting flower from the Designer Series Paper and tying 1/2″ Black Satin ribbon around card.

I love to take other designs and change it up a bit.  See what I can do with it.

Cake Soiree Shutter Card

This month’s card class was “All About Birthdays”.  One of the cards highlighted the Sweet Soiree Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP) and the Cake Soiree Stamp Set/Sweet Cake Framelits Bundle.  When designing the card for the class, I selected to make a shutter card as it truly highlights the beauty of the DSP and the stamp bundle.

Fun Fold with Painted Harvest

One of my favorite stamp sets in the newly released Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog is  Painted Harvest.  The sunflower stamp can be used with a variety of colors to create beautiful stamped flowers.  In a recent class, I decided to mix it up and use colors that coordinated with the  Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper (DSP).  Don’t you love the look of the flower stamped using Emerald Envy and Lemon Lime Twist inks?  Note that the flower stamp is a Two Step stamp and the first step stamp may appear to only partially stamp.  This actually is the way the stamp is designed and not a flaw with the stamp.  When the second step is stamped, the flower becomes complete.  It’s also recommended that when using photopolymer stamps to use a piercing mat to ensure even pressure when stamping.  The fun fold card design was CASED from Janet Wakeland with just a few slight modifications.
