Feb 18, 2021 | Birthday, Cards, Ice Cream Corner, January-June 2021 Mini Catalog, Product Suites, Shaker Cards |
Today, I am sharing a modified birthday shaker card featuring the Sweet Ice Cream Stamp Set and the Ice Cream Corner Designer Series Paper. Really, it’s a “faux” shaker card but best of all, it’s easier and quicker to make than a traditional shaker card. Tips for creating it are below. Since my grandson has an upcoming birthday and loves ice cream, I knew the Ice Cream Corner Suite would be perfect to use for creating his birthday card. And for additional fun, a shaker card is always a perfect go-to design.

Tips for a Modified Birthday Shaker Card:
- To create the shaker portion, cut designer series paper to desired layer size. For the feature card, the Ice Cream Corner Designer Series Paper is cut 3-3/4″ x 5″. Insert the designer series paper into a clear medium envelope. Add your shaker elements such as the Ice Cream Corner Sprinkles. Seal the envelope flap, then fold the excess envelope sides to the back and tape down to hold in place. Use Tear & Tape to attach to your base.

- For an extra touch, the Happy Birthday sentiment is stamped first with Cinnamon Cider then stamped again with Versamark. Top with clear emboss powder and heat set. NOTE: Stamparatus is used to ensure stamping accuracy. Use paper snips to trim around the lettering.
- A full list of the products for this card are listed below under Project Materials.
Hopefully, you won’t be bored with the slew of birthday cards that I will be sharing for the next month. In our family, there are lots of March birthdays so it’s the current design focus.
The modified birthday card was lots of fun to make. Add a comment if you have questions on recreating the card or would like me to make a demonstration video!

Aug 17, 2020 | 2020-2021 Annual Catalog, Birthday, Bundles, Cards, Designer Series Paper, Fun Folds, Peony Garden, Prized Peony, Uncategorized |
As noted in previous posts, one of my favorite product suites in the Annual Catalog is the Peony Garden Suite. So when celebrating my mother’s birthday in June, the choice was easy. The suite was ideal for decorating a center step peony card to mark the milestone occasion. Plus, the card fit perfectly in a Whisper White medium envelope. Since the celebrating continued for several weeks, the center step peony card was perfect for her to keep it on display!

Details:
- The card base starts with a 4-1/4″ x 11″ piece of Petal Pink cardstock. For cutting and scoring to create the center step card base, I followed this video by Wendy Cranford. She uses a wider card but the 1″ cuts on each side of the cardstock and the scoring lines remain the same.
- To cover the front card panels, select coordinating pages from the Peony Garden Designer Series Paper. Cut the following sizes: center panel (4-3/8″ x 2-1/8″), 2 side panels (7/8″ x 4-3/8″) , and bottom panel (4-1/4″ x 7/8″).
- The sentiment on the bottom panel is from the Itty Bitty Birthdays Stamp Set. Since the phrase “Happy Birthday” is combined on one stamp, use a post-it mask on the word you do not want to stamp with the Gray Granite Classic Stampin’ Pad. Next, attach a piece of Gray Granite cardstock to an Adhesive Foam Sheet and cut with the Playful Alphabet Dies. Add to the center of the panel between the sentiment phrase.
- Now, attach the panels to the card front using Stampin’ Seal or Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.
- Use the Peony Dies to cut the flower pieces from Petal Pink cardstock. Cut the stamen from a scrap of Basic Black cardstock. Sponge along the edges of the flower pieces with Petal Pink Classic Ink and assemble the peony.
- With Old Olive Classic Stampin’ Pad, stamp the large stemmed peony onto Whisper White cardstock. Cut with the coordinating Peony Die. Color the stem using Old Olive Stampin’ Blends Markers. Note: you do not need to color the flower since you’ll cover it with the die cut peony flower. Attach to the center panel using Foam Adhesive Strips.
- Add the peony flower to the flower stem using Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive covering the peony flower on the stem.
- Embellish around the flower with Clear Epoxy Droplets and add a small 1/4″ Gray Granite Shimmer Ribbon bow.
There are many variations for creating center step cards. Just vary the center step width to create a wider card. Have fun creating a center step card!

Jul 13, 2020 | 2020-2021 Annual Catalog, Best Year Bundle, Birthday, Bundles, Cards, Masculine |
Finally, I took the time to play with the Best Plaid Builder Dies and glad I did! The plaid creates a beautiful card. And even better, the plaid is perfect for creating masculine cards. And where did I get my inspiration? My husband’s closet! He has a red, white and khaki plaid shirt so I decided to use the colors on a card. Real Red, Basic Black and Crumb Cake on a Whisper White background match the shirt perfectly! The sentiment for the card is from the Best Year Stamp Set. Both the stamp set and the Best Plaid Builder Dies can be purchased together in the Best Year Bundle.

Materials :
- Card Base: Crumb Cake cardstock (5-1/2″ x 11″, score at 4-1/4″ and fold).
- Basic Back Layer: 5-1/4″ x 4″
- Whisper White: 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ (for plaid base); 3″ x 1-1/2″ (for sentiment)
- Real Red: 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ (for plaid); 3-3/4″ x 2-1/4″ (layer for sentiment)
- Crumb Cake: 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ (for plaid)
- Basic Black: 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ (for plaid)
- Adhesive Sheets: cut 3 at 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″
- Best You Bundle (Best Year Stamp Set & Best Plaid Builder Dies)
- Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad
- Tasteful Labels Dies
- Paper Trimmer
- Stampin’ Seal+
- Stampin’ Dimensionals
- Basic Rhinestone Jewels
For the Plaid Design:
- For the first step, add the Adhesive Sheets to the Real Red, Crumb Cake and Basic Black Pieces for the plaid design.
- Using the Best Plaid Builder Dies, cut the Crumb Cake with the plaid base die. (TIP: be sure the adhesive sheet is face down on your die cutting machine and the die is directly on the cardstock)
- With the open plaid die, cut the Real Red and Basic Black pieces. TIP: Save the squares to use on another project.
- To start building the plaid, remove the backing from the adhesive sheet from the Real Red open plaid design and attach to the Whisper White base. Next, layer the Crumb Cake plaid base over the Real Red open plaid layer and then follow with the Basic Black open plaid layer. NOTE: you’ll want to offset slightly to get your design. It will overhang and will be cut to the appropriate size for the card. Also, press the layers firmly to ensure the pieces adhere to one another.
- After you have your plaid design, use your Paper Trimmer to cut the plaid to 3-3/4″ x 5″.
Card Assembly:
- Using Stampin’ Seal+, attach the plaid design to the Basic Black layer.
- Next, add the Basic Black/Plaid Layer to the Crumb Cake card base using the Stampin’ Seal.
- With the Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad, stamp the sentiment from the Best Year Stamp Set onto the small piece of Whisper White cardstock. For the label shape, use the Tasteful Labels Dies. Also, with the dies cut the Real Red cardstock to use for layering the sentiment label. After completing the label, add to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- For the final touch, embellish with Basic Rhinestone Jewels. (The Basic Black Rhinestone Jewels on my card are retired but you can easily use your Basic Black Stampin’ Blends to color the Basic Rhinestone Jewels.)
After you make your first plaid card, you’ll want to make more of them! Be sure to comment below and let me know where you get your design inspirations!
I had fun making the card and have several others in the works. And don’t forget to check back later this week, I’ll be sharing a card using the leftover pieces from the open plaid die.

Jul 6, 2020 | 2020-2021 Annual Catalog, 3D, Birthday, Boxes, Cards, Designer Series Paper, Peony Garden, Uncategorized |
A friend recently had a birthday and to celebrate, I sent her a small gift. If you receive my newsletter, you’ll recall the peony birthday card along with instructions for creating the card. As promised, I am sharing the coordinating Peony Gift Box that includes the inspiration for both the box and the birthday card. One of my go-to places for small personal gifts is Bath & Body Works. So after receiving an email showcasing a selection of peony bath gel and lotions, an order was quickly placed. The items coordinate perfectly with products from the Peony Garden Suite Collection.

Project Details:
As you see in the photo, I crafted a box from a 12″ x 12″ Night of Navy cardstock (from the Neutrals 12″ x 12″ cardstock pack) cut to size for the box bottom plus it’s matches the blue on the Bath & Body Works products. For the box top, a piece of the Peony Garden Designer Series Paper is cut to fit the box bottom. For creating boxes, I use the instructions provided by Donna Griffith in her You Tube video, How to Make Your Own Box. Her detailed instructions make it easy to create boxes sized specifically for a project.
After creating the box, use the Peony Dies to cut Blushing Bride cardstock for the flower. Next, sponge each of the pieces for the flower using Melon Mambo Classic Stampin’ Pad before assembling. Tip: When sponging, use a swiping motion with the sponge to drag the ink across the layer. Now, assemble the peony. And to create dimension between the peony layers, tuck Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals between the cardstock layers. Finish the flower by adding the stamen using a mini glue dot. The stamen is die cut from a scrap of Bumblebee cardstock. Notice how the Stampin’ Up! colors match the peony colors on the lotion and gel containers perfectly? For the leaves, cut 3 sets using the Peony Dies. Garden Green cardstock forms the main leaf body and contrasting leaf edges use Old Olive cardstock.
Finishing the Peony Gift Box top:
Next, create a base for the peony label by cutting a piece of Night of Navy cardstock using the Tasteful Labels Dies. Attach a Gold Foil circle cut with the 2-1/4″ circle punch to the Night of Navy label. Finish by arranging the leaves and adding the peony to the label using Mini Glue Dots and Stampin’ Dimensionals. Ribbon is wrapped around the center of the box lid and glued inside the flaps. The Night of Navy ribbon on the project is retired and no longer available but you can substitute a Whisper White Ribbon or color a ribbon with Night of Navy Stampin’ Blends. Add the Peony Label to the box using a strong adhesive such as Stampin’ Seal+. Complete by adding a bow just below the peony on the label. Add to the Night of Navy box bottom and your gift box is complete!
Here are additional views of the box:

It’s so much fun when you find products that coordinate with Stampin’ Up! stamps and papers! Creative ideas abound!
Of course, the box coordinates also with the card…

Jul 3, 2020 | 2020-2021 Annual Catalog, Birthday, Cards, Congratulations, Designer Series Paper, Forever Greenery, Forever Greenery, Ornate Garden, Ornate Garden Suite |
Today I am sharing two cards from Linda’s card class projects. Linda is a member of my Playtime with Paper team. In addition to being on my team, Linda leads her team, the Crafty Herons. Due to COVID-19 precautions, we are temporarily offering online card classes vs the in person classes. Participants in the classes purchase the project kits and join in via Zoom for the scheduled class. So, last week Linda led a group of craft friends through construction of four projects. Since I could not attend the class, Linda provided project photos. And, I’m sharing two of the projects with you. You’ll find the descriptions below each photo.
Ornate Garden Congratulations
For the project above, the Ornate Garden Designer Series Paper provides a beautiful background. Using the Ornate Border Dies, the designer series paper is cut before adding it to the Thick Whisper White cardstock base. Next, cut a strip of Whisper White cardstock using the dies. It overlays the designer series paper’s cut edge. Use the three flower dies in the set to also cut the flowers from Rococo Rose cardstock. Then, add some shimmer to the flowers with the Clear Wink of Stella. When dry, use Mini Glue Dots to add the flowers along the border. The sentiment is from the Peaceful Moments Stamp Set. Stamp “Congratulations” onto the lower portion of the card using Rococo Rose Classic Stampin’ Pad. Gilded Gems embellish the centers of each flower. For that little extra touch, emboss the envelope flap using the Ornate Floral 3D Embossing Folder.
Forever Fern Happy Birthday

To the Thick Whisper White cardstock base, add a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Pretty Peacock cardstock. Next, add one of the Forever Gold Laser-Cut Specialty Paper rectangles to the Pretty Peacock layer. Add a 1-1/4″ x 4″ strip of the Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper to the card front (referring to photo for approximate placement). On a scrap of Whisper White cardstock, stamp the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Peaceful Moments Stamp Set using Pretty Peacock Classic Stampin’ Pad. Cut the circle using either a 2″ Circle Punch or one of the Layering Circle Dies (keep the sentiment toward the top of the circle). Select a variety of leaf dies from the Forever Flourishing dies and cut a piece of Just Jade cardstock, Old Olive cardstock and Soft Seafoam cardstock. Layer the leaves and attach to one another using Mini Glue Dots. Next, add a Gold Hoop Embellishment to the card and add the sentiment label in the center of the hoop using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Then, attach the layer of leaves to the lower portion of the sentiment label with adhesive. Embellish the stem on the leaves with the gold metallic trim from the Forever Greenery Trim Combo Pack.
Thank you to Linda for the photos! I am having fun completing her four class projects.

Jun 10, 2020 | 2020-2021 Annual Catalog, 2020-2022 In Colors, Birthday, Card Sketch, Cards, Designer Series Paper, Flowers for Every Season, Flowers for Every Season, Forever Greenery, Forever Greenery, Product Suites |
Have you taken note that I enjoy using the various products in the Flowers for Every Season Suite Collection? I just realized that my past few posts have incorporated items from the suite. So of course, today’s post is no different! I’m loving the versatility of the product suite. It provides the ability to combine the different elements to create a variety of cards. Today’s card uses the Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Card Pack, as well as, a piece of the Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Paper.

Here are some of the card details:
- The front of the card base is texture embossed using the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder. The floral print layer is from the Flowers for Every Season Memories & More Card Pack. The 1-1/4″ strip is a piece of the Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Paper. After stamping and cutting the sentiment layer, add a few sprigs of leaves from the Forever Gold Laser-Cut Specialty Designer Series Paper to the label. Finally, complete by embellishing with a small bow.
The design is the from the weekly design challenge for the Playtime with Paper team. Each week, I select a design or color challenge for the team to use. Below is this week’s challenge from the Sunday Stamps Blog.

In addition to my take on the design, I am including a card created by Playtime with Paper team member, Linda Edwards of Crafty Heron Designs. Linda’s card features the Forever Greenery Suite Collection. Isn’t her card stunning?

Speaking of the Playtime with Paper team, this month is a great time to join Stampin’ Up! and becoming a member of my team.
