Lipstick on A Pig

Today’s card is the result of an idea that’s been floating in my mind since the release of the Mini Catalog.  I thought it would be fun to create a card with the theme of “Lipstick on A Pig” combining the Dressed to Impress and This Little Piggy Stamp sets.  And of course, the color of Lovely Lipstick has to be used.  It’s amazing how quickly my design vision came together!  Below is my “lipstick on a pig”card:

Lipstick on a Pig

Details so you can create “Lipstick on a Pig”:
  • For the card base, cut Petal Pink cardstock (5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″).  Score at 4-1/4″ and fold.
  • Second layer is a 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock.
  • Top layer uses a piece of 5″ x 3-3/4″ Best Dressed Designer Series Paper.
For the pig:
  • Cut a piece of 3″ x 4-1/2″ piece of Whisper White cardstock using the Stitched Nested Labels dies.
  • Select pig stamp from the This Little Piggy Stamp Set.  Cover the sentiment below the pig using a small post-it note.  With the post-it note in place, ink the pig stamp with Basic Gray Classic Stampin’ Pad.  Remove the post-it note and stamp the pig on the right side of the Whisper White Stitched Label cardstock piece.
  • Color the pig body using the Petal Pink Stampin’ Blends Markers.  Use the Light Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends Marker to color the pig’s hooves.  Light Old Olive Stampin’ Blends Marker colors the grass and the Light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends Marker colors the ground around the pig.
  • Use the “kisses” stamp from This Little Piggy Stamp Set to add kisses on the pig’s body.  TIP: Instead of using the ink pad, use the Lovely Lipstick Stampin’ Write Marker to color each of the kisses and stamp onto pig.  This prevents over-inking the stamp.
  • Next, stamp the sentiment, Hello Gorgeous, from the Dressed to Impress Stamp Set onto the label using the Lovely Lipstick Classic Stampin’ Pad. Then, attach label to the front of the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Finishing touches:
  • Stamp the tube of lipstick using Basic Gray Classic Stampin’ Pad onto a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Color with using the Lovely Lipsticks Stampin’ Blends Markers and the Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends Markers.  Use the Color Lifter to assist with shading on the tube portion.
  • Cut the lipstick tube using the coordinating die from the All Dressed Up Dies.  Add to the card using Mini Glue Dots.
  • Complete the card by adding a small bow using the Petal Pink Metallic-Edge Ribbon to the edge of the label.

Have fun creating your own “lipstick on a pig” card!

Beautiful Botanical Prints

Have you checked out the beautiful Botanical Prints Project Medley on page 61 in the Stampin’ Up! January – June 2020 Mini Catalog?  The product medley is a wonderful kit.  In addition to gorgeous Designer Series Paper, included is a 6-piece cling stamp set, coordinating dies, and accents for creating beautiful projects. The 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper features 8 each of 6 double-sided designs for a total of 48 sheets.  In addition, the product medley contains 4 sheets of die-cut accents, 2 each of 2 designs; 4 sheets of laser-cut overlays, 2 each of 4 designs; Old Olive Twill Ribbon and 12 metal bee embellishments.

This past weekend I was able to spend some time crafting and created the following card.  It highlights a sheet of the Designer Series Paper from the Botanical Prints Product Medley.  The card design is the Playtime with Paper Team’s weekly challenge and comes from Sunday Stamps design SSC202. The challenges are a fun way for team members to engage with one another and share their interpretation of the design sketch.  Botanical Prints

Card Details:
  • Create card base: Basic Black cardstock (4-1/4″ x 11″, score and fold at 5-1/2″).
  • Cut three strips of Whisper White cardstock: 1-11/16″ x 4″.
  • Select desired Designer Series Paper and cut 3-7/8″ x 9/16″.
  • Attach the Designer Series Paper strips to the Whisper White strips with Snail Adhesive.  Position the strips evenly onto the card base and adhere.
  • Using the triple leaves dies from the Nature’s Root Dies, emboss and cut two sets of leaves from scraps of Basic Black cardstock.
  • Stamp the sentiment from the So Sentimental Stamp Set using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad onto a 3″ x 2-1/4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Use the Stitched So Sweetly Dies to cut the shape.
  • Referring to the card photo, attach the leaves to the top and bottom of the sentiment layer.
  • Add sentiment layer to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Finish by embellishing sentiment with Basic Rhinestone Jewels.

I will be using more elements from the Botanical Prints Product Medley to create additional cards and other projects so be sure to subscribe to “Get My Posts” to receive notifications of new posts.

Best Catch

Before I share my project using the Best Catch Stamp Set, I want to first check in to see how you’re doing?  Have you remained healthy? Are you adjusting to the guidelines for dealing with the pandemic? I hope the answers are positive.  For me it’s certainly been an adjustment.  My grandson, Alex, has online school and since both parents are still working, I have been helping out as teacher’s aide and staying in Atlanta.  Since we’re practicing limited contact, Alex stays with me during the week before going home for the weekend.  Then, I head out of Atlanta to our home from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon.  Then back to Atlanta for another week of school. It’s been great bonding time but I do miss be able to go into my craft cave.  Plus I miss the monthly card classes and spending time sharing my passion for paper crafting with others.  This weekend, I am burying myself in my craft cave and hope to complete additional projects to share with you.

Today’s card a great masculine card featuring the Best Catch Stamp Set and coordinating Catch of the Day Dies. Since my youngest son enjoys fishing, I knew the set would be perfect to create a card for his recent birthday.  The High Tide Stamp Set offers the perfect stamp for creating the water and shoreline.

Masculine card

Card Details:
  • Card base: Old Olive cardstock 4-1/4″ x 11″, score at 5-1/2″ and fold.
  • Second Layer: Crumb Cake cardstock 4″ x 5-1/4″.  Texture emboss using the Basket Weave 3D Embossing Folder.  Attach to the card base.
  • Card front layer: Whisper White cardstock 3-3/4″ x 5″.  With the shoreline stamp from the High Tide Stamp Set, stamp along the lower edge of the card using Crumb Cake Classic Stampin’ Pad.
  • Next, create the “water” with the High Tide Stamp Set using Seaside Spray Classic Stampin’ Pad.  Stamp approximately half way up the card piece.  Create the sky by using a sponge dauber to lightly add the Seaside Spray ink to the remainder of the card.  Attach to the embossed Crumb Cake layer using a strong adhesive.
  • Using the cattails die from Catch of the Day Dies and from Friendly Silhouettes Dies, to cut Whisper White cardstock.  (Note: you can cut multiples of cattails from the Catch of the Day if you do not have the Friendly Silhouettes dies).   Color the cattails using the light and dark Mossy Meadow blends, the Color Lifter and the Soft Suede Dark Blends.  Add to card using mini glue dots.
For the Fish:

On a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock, stamp the fish using Soft Suede Classic Stampin’ Pad.  Color the fish using the following Stampin’ Blends: Mossy Meadow Light, Soft Sea Foam Light, Old Olive Light, Calypso Coral Light.  If desired, use the Color Lifter to lighten areas.  Lightly wash over the fish with Clear Wink of Stella.  Cut the fish using the coordinating Catch of the Day die. Next, add the fish to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

  • Stamp sentiment using Old Olive Classic Stampin’ Pad onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and cut using the 1-1/2″ circle punch.  TIP: look at photo for placement of the sentiment – punch so sentiment is on lower right part of the circle so you have room to add the fishing hat.  Add to card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Use Soft Suede to stamp the hat outline and color with the Soft Suede Light Blends.  After coloring, cut using the coordinating die from Catch of the Day Dies and attach to the sentiment using Mini Glue Dots.

Lastly, don’t forget the envelope! Stamp the fishing basket onto the front with Soft Suede and color using the Soft Suede Light Stampin’ Blends.  TIP: to prevent the ink from bleeding through the envelope, insert a piece of scrap paper or post-it note before stamping and coloring.

It was lots of fun creating this card and I have plans to use the Best Catch set again for another male relative.

Be sure to leave me a comment and let me know how you’re coping to the social distancing guidelines.  What projects are you working on?

For The Love of Felt

While practicing social distancing guidelines, I am taking the opportunity to use some of the kits from Stampin’ Up!  Currently, I am using the For The Love of Felt Project Kit and the coordinating Stamp Set.  Thus, I can continue to set aside snippets of time crafting while still acting as “teacher’s aide” for my grandson. Best of all, with the kit directions it’s doesn’t require that I spend valuable time coming up with card designs.  And the Love of Felt Project Kit is beautiful!  Here’s one of the completed cards:

Components separated and ready to make another of the cards!  Best of all, a beautiful storage box is included for the finished cards.
Love of Felt card

The kit contains fun felt flowers with layers to add texture and dimension to the handmade cards.  The kit includes materials to make 12 full sized cards.  There are 4 cards each of 3 different designs.  In addition to the project kit and coordinating stamp set, the following items are recommended: Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzazz, Sahara Sand and Shaded Spruce Classic Stampin’ Pads; Stampin’ Dimensionals, Multipurpose Liquid Glue, Snail Adhesive and Paper Snips.

In the video below, Stampin’ Up! provides a short overview of the For the Love of Felt Project Kit and assembly:
