Peony Gift Box

A friend recently had a birthday and to celebrate, I sent her a small gift. If you receive my newsletter, you’ll recall the peony birthday card along with instructions for creating the card.  As promised, I am sharing the coordinating Peony Gift Box that includes the inspiration for both the box and the birthday card.  One of my go-to places for small personal gifts is Bath & Body Works.  So after receiving an email showcasing a selection of peony bath gel and lotions, an order was quickly placed.  The items coordinate perfectly with products from the Peony Garden Suite Collection.

Peony Garden Gift Box

Project Details:

As you see in the photo, I crafted a box from a 12″ x 12″ Night of Navy cardstock (from the Neutrals 12″ x 12″ cardstock pack) cut to size for the box bottom plus it’s matches the blue on the Bath & Body Works products.  For the box top, a piece of the Peony Garden Designer Series Paper is cut to fit the box bottom.  For creating boxes, I use the instructions provided by Donna Griffith in her You Tube video, How to Make Your Own Box.  Her detailed instructions make it easy to create boxes sized specifically for a project.

After creating the box, use the Peony Dies to cut Blushing Bride cardstock for the flower.  Next, sponge each of the pieces for the flower using Melon Mambo Classic Stampin’ Pad before assembling.  Tip: When sponging, use a swiping motion with the sponge to drag the ink across the layer.  Now, assemble the peony.  And to create dimension between the peony layers, tuck Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals between the cardstock layers.  Finish the flower by adding the stamen using a mini glue dot.  The stamen is die cut from a scrap of Bumblebee cardstock.  Notice how the Stampin’ Up! colors match the peony colors on the lotion and gel containers perfectly?  For the leaves, cut 3 sets using the Peony Dies.  Garden Green cardstock forms the main leaf body and contrasting leaf edges use Old Olive cardstock.

Finishing the Peony Gift Box top:

Next, create a base for the peony label by cutting a piece of Night of Navy cardstock using the Tasteful Labels Dies.  Attach a Gold Foil circle cut with the 2-1/4″ circle punch to the Night of Navy label.  Finish by arranging the leaves and adding the peony to the label using Mini Glue Dots and Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Ribbon is wrapped around the center of the box lid and glued inside the flaps.  The Night of Navy ribbon on the project is retired and no longer available but you can substitute a Whisper White Ribbon or color a ribbon with Night of Navy Stampin’ Blends.  Add the Peony Label to the box using a strong adhesive such as Stampin’ Seal+.  Complete by adding a bow just below the peony on the label.  Add to the Night of Navy box bottom and your gift box is complete!

It’s so much fun when you find products that coordinate with Stampin’ Up! stamps and papers!  Creative ideas abound!

Of course, the box coordinates also with the card…

Brooklynn’s Birthday Card

This weekend we’re celebrating our granddaughter Brooklynn’s 3rd birthday.  Of course, Brooklynn’s birthday card must be in her favorite color – purple.  Therefore, I used several shades of purple on the card.  The New Wonders Stamp Set is perfect creating a card for a 3 year old girl.  She’s a fan of Frozen and though the girl in the stamp set isn’t Elsa or Anna, I don’t think Brooklynn will care.  But, I know she will like the card!

Birthday card

Card Directions:
  1. Create a card base using a 4-1/4″ x 11-1/2″ piece of Gorgeous Grape cardstock.  Score at 5-1/2″ and fold to use as a side opening card.
  2. Add a layer of 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece of the Highland Heather plaid designer series paper from the 6″ x 6″ Subtles Designer Series Paper package.
  3. Refer to card photo for placement of stamping images and sentiment.  Stamp the image from the New Wonders stamp set onto a 4-1/4″ x 3-1/4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock using Basic Gray Classic Stampin’ Pad.
  4. Use Gorgeous Grape Classic Stampin’ Pad to stamp the sentiment on the card.  The words Happy Birthday are from the Well Said Stamp Set and “3 rd” stamps are from the Make A Difference Stamp Set.
  5. Use Stampin’ Blends in the following colors for the girl image: Ivory (face, hands and feet); Daffodil Delight Combo and Light Soft Suede (hair), Purple Posy Combo (for top) and Highland Heather Combo (for skirt), Light Seaside Spray (wings) and Smoky Slate Combo for the ink pen. When coloring, use the Color Lifter to help with shading.  Light Real Red Stampin’ Blend colors the hearts.  Add Clear Wink of Stella to the skirt for a touch of shimmer.
  6. Cut the Whisper White with the Stitched So Sweetly Dies.  Attach to the center of the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  7. Complete by tying a knotted bow using the Purple Tricolor Ribbon and adding to card front with a mini glue dot.

Oh, don’t forget to stamp the interior too…

I can’t wait to see Brooklynn’s face when she opens the card along with her gift.  Purple is definitely the theme!

A Very Special Birthday!

If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ll recall past birthday cards for my friend’s mother, Ms. Lorraine.  This year was a very special birthday for Ms. Lorraine.  She celebrated turning 100 years old!!!  Naturally, it required an extra special birthday card.  There were a variety of sentiments to add to the card so the double Z-fold with extra panels offered a perfect design.  You’ll notice the card uses a combination of current and discontinued Stampin’ Up! products.  The discontinued products includes the Number of Years and Picture Perfect Birthday Stamp Sets.   With such a milestone, the numbers definitely should be front and center.   Though I often do not keep non-current products, there are certain stamp sets and bundles that are must haves forever.   The Number of Years is one such set!  And Picture Perfect Birthday is a favorite. The other card elements are from the Bird Ballad Suite.

The front of the card and envelope.Special Birthday Card for 100th Year

A view of the interior side panels.

The back of the card and the envelope flap.

Details for the card:

As you note from the photos above, almost all of the panels front and back have decor.  For a handwritten sentiment, a panel on the back works perfectly.  Notice the envelope?  As an extra touch, both the front and back of the envelope are stamped and colored with Stampin’ Blends.  Tip:  To avoid the blends from bleeding through the envelope, insert a scrap of paper behind the image before coloring.

For the card base, use Pool Party cardstock.  Then on the card base, build layers using Daffodil Delight cardstock with an additional layer of the Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper on the panels.  For the interior z-panels, the Daffodil Delight layer has panels of Whisper White cardstock.  The stamp sets, Stitched All Around and Picture Perfect Birthday, provide perfect interior sentiments.  Fussy cut the bird and flowers to embellish the card panels.  The words, Happy Birthday, are from the A Wish for Everything Stamp Set.  Rhinestone Basic Jewels add a touch of bling to the flowers.  To match the The Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon to the card base, a dark Pool Party Stampin’ Blends easily does the job!

Another tip:  when creating a card, look at all of your stamp sets and mix/match to fit the occasion.

As my husband and I were traveling on a bucket list trip, we were not able to attend the celebration for Ms.Lorraine.  I understand that she loved the card!

Hope you have a great weekend.  We’re finally getting Fall like temperatures so I’m looking forward to enjoying the outdoors!

Thanks for stopping by…Happy  Crafting!
